| Nat_2005-20-07, 01:53 PM | In the DM's guide under the scroll section, there is a 1st level arcane spell scroll that seems out of place.... Cure Light Wounds... Is this a misprint or just a little boost to give low level casters... And if so, and a wizards do a spell craft check to copy it into their spell book and use it? It IS under the arcane spells list for scroll... |
| Toloran05-20-07, 01:56 PM | A wizard cannot copy a spell in to their spellbook unless the spell is on their class list. The arcane CLW is not on their class because it is on the Bard's spell list. |
| Nat_2005-20-07, 01:57 PM | i see, but an they still use the scroll like that? or do they have to do a spell craft to use it? |
| Fireclave05-20-07, 02:00 PM | Since the spell is not on the wizard spell list, a wizard would have to use UMD to activate it. |
| Nat_2005-20-07, 02:03 PM | I never play bards so when i saw a cure spell in the arcane section i got a little interested... Well, thank you all. |
| Raxor05-20-07, 02:29 PM | There's also the Arcane Disciple feat for access to Healing Domain spells (from Complete Divine), but that's a lot of ifs and some MAD. On the other hand, you could now use those scrolls. |
| Dan_Damateur05-21-07, 01:26 PM | What is UMD? |

It IS under the arcane spells list for scroll... It is for Bards (and other arcane casters with CLW on their spell list.) Do do you suggest a wizard is to copy a spell to their spell book that isn't on their class spell list? If they did manage to get it in their spell book, how do you suggest they make use of it (other than to say woot I have CLW in my spell book)? To answer my own questions: A Wizard has no way to make use of that scroll short of arcane discipline of the healing domain (if it contains CLW as a spell) or some other ability that adds CLW wounds to their class spell list. In short, spell access (being able to cast them) is restricted by your class spell list and NOT ever under any circumstances by the availability of arcane scrolls containing the spell. |
