| DemonMonkeyBoy12-20-04, 10:59 AM | :b: Unless I'm reading something wrong. An 18th lvl Archmage drops a 1st lvl spell and can do 19d6 to one opponent, 4 time a day. Than move on to 2nd and 3rd after that do another d6 with each lvl. A 18th warlock can only do 9d6, half as much. I don't think a would allow it, but would try it once or twice. |
| Ringrose12-20-04, 12:08 PM | Arcane Fire (Su): The archmage gains the ability to change arcane spell energy into arcane fire, manifesting it as a bolt of raw magical energy. The bolt is a ranged touch attack with long range (400 feet + 40 feet/level of archmage) that deals 1d6 points of damage per class level of the archmage plus 1d6 points of damage per level of the spell used to create the effect. This ability costs one 9th-level spell slot. I believe that Arcane fire damage is per Archmage class level and not character or caster level. So a Wiz 17/Archmage 2 would do 3d6 damage for a 1st level spell and 11d6 for a 9th level spell...not the best of abilities but could be useful in certain situations... I would not allow the Warlock specific item to work...but for the same cost I would allow an archmage specific item that would do the same thing... |

Yeah the max at 20th (15 Wiz / 5 Arch) is 6d6 for a 1st and 14d6 for a 9th. I was using some epic rogue / wizard / arcane trickster / archmage combo. It probably should have been way more optimized but it was fun to occasionally blast someone with a bunch of magic and sneak attack at the cost of a 1st level spell. I hope that Complete Adventurer has at least one Rogue / Arcane (or Divine for that matter) class that has a spell progression of +1 existing.... |
