| SALDAR06-30-05, 03:24 PM | By the core rules, no (unless the specific item states that it can be in some manner). The Unearthed Arcana offers a variant that allows recharging of such items. Some prestige classes, I believe, also allow recharging. |
| masterofmayhem06-30-05, 03:25 PM | Not per the RAW, no, although there is likely a feat in some splatbook that allows you to do so. It may be important to point out that recharging a wand or staff would cost exactly the same as buying a whole new wand or staff, though. Or rather, that a single charge costs the same whether it is for a new staff or for a recharged one. |

| tarkin06-30-05, 04:35 PM | In addition to what was mentioned above: There are several artifacts that let you recharge themselves. There is also an artifact called Dwarven Glow Stones that comes with upto 100 charges. Each charge may be transferred to any other charged magic item Or you can use the charge to allow an extra use/day from an x/day item. Also, you should be able to buy and sell wands with partial charges. When myplayers buy a wand, I roll d100. 49 or less = # of charges. 50 or greater = fully charged. Price is of course adjusted down (wand with 25 charges = 1/2 price of wand with 50 charges). --------- Note, under NO circumstances should the players get a discount for "recharging", in either time, gp, or xp. |
| DragonDeadite06-30-05, 05:49 PM | I'm running a very high-magic game, and I allow recharging, simply because of the fact that it's pretty hard to come across someone willing to make a high-powered staff, lose their XP and then sell it off for just some gold. It costs them twice as much per charge as it would cost to get a new staff built, but they already have a staff so why would they want another one? (Yes, I see the flaw in this but my players don't, leave me alone!) for that main reason they never bother recharging wands. |

| CryoSilver06-30-05, 07:35 PM | Glowstones are from magic of Faerun, and they come with 1000 charges in that book along with some nifty powers, including magical healing while you transfer charges. |
| celloshane06-30-05, 07:37 PM | Thanks Cryo. |
| SALDAR07-01-05, 10:26 AM | What is the UA variant that allows recharging of these items? I don't recall the specifics (haven't read through it in a few months, a friend has my copy), but I think it uses the same item creation rules and it costs the same (or more?) per charge as creating a new wand or staff. Having the same cost per charge as a new item instead of a lower cost makes some since as it keeps people from creating an item with 1 charge and then "recharging" it to full. |
