| Jet_The_Bard09-30-04, 08:44 PM | This is my first time playing ,so excuse me all ye great ones, for asking this. I asked my friend if u can make up your own items and weapons. He has no clue and he has been playing longer... Can i get an expert in here? |
| q'afuu09-30-04, 08:48 PM | Anything the DM allows is allowed. Sounds somewhat lame as an answer, but there it is. If you want to create a custom weapon, try at least to keep it in line with the existing ones. With a few exceptions, the whole weapon list is fairly balanced. Same with other items. |
| shift24409-30-04, 08:53 PM | .. with the permission and agreement of the Game Master, at the least, and other players, depending on how you reach agreements amongst your group. However, with the pretty vast variety of weapons already available in the books, I doubt the need for any new weapons that would have any significant mechanical differences. Any mechanical differences would be potentially "unbalancing" as many would likely point out, that would either give the weilder a greater advantage, or in the less often case, reduce the weilders effectiveness. Else wise, if you're simply going to give the longsword a different name and fancy descriptions without changing the statistics of the weapon, I do not se anything against it at all. Edit: I know that there are many threads where people summit new weapons statistics for comments. I'm rather lazy to run the search, but perhaps one will return a result of a weapon similar to what you have in mind, along with the comments from others on the relative dis/advantages such that a discussion with your GM will be more probable of a success. |
| Thorak09-30-04, 08:58 PM | Like shift224 implied, often you don't need to create a new weapon, just use an existing weapon's stats and call it something else. For instance, if you want to make the stats for a war-club, that being a hardened and studded club, you could just decide it's effectively a light or heavy mace, statistically, and go from there. |

He has no clue and he has been playing longer... Can i get an expert in here? No. No you can't. If you do, Wizards' special Anti-Homebrew Attack Force will raid your house and summon a masticore to surprise you and quickly shred and devour you. ;) j/k. Yes you can, with DM approval. |
| Jet_The_Bard10-01-04, 05:29 PM | thx cus i was gonna say if u cant change your weapons then what kind of game is this? another question... My attack is extremely low...or not extremely just low STR: 11 i get no attack bonus whatsoever, except on ranged items. is this something i should kick my friend over, because i have no useful spells (im lvl1) and i have some kind of cursed roll that i never get 17-20. (he rolled for me on stats) |
| arbanafal10-02-04, 05:39 AM | I wouldn't worry about a mediocre STR 11 unless you have a fighter-like character (paladin/melee ranger/fighter) specialized in melee. Then you would have a problem in the damage-dealing department. But you can work around a low strength. If you have a higher DEX, than you can take the weapon finesse feat and a light weapon and -voila- better 'to hit' stats. :ayyyy!: If you're a supporting character (wizard/sorcerer/rogue) than don't worry too much about STR. And always remember that every 4 levels you can get a stat boost. And if that isn't enough than you can buy relatively cheap stat-boosting magic items (ie. girdle of strength +2 or +4 (+6 is more expensive). :teach: And then there's always stat-boosting spells of course... |
