| KRATOS_BLADE_of_SPARTA08-25-07, 06:49 AM | Greetings, I am in the process of creating a character that replaces the useage of Magic Items instead using more mundane, scientific and technology-based equipment including Alchemy and Poisons. Now something I would love to get my hands on is a Mineral or similar substance that has the Antimagic property. My first thought was to mine metal from Dead Magic zones, but then I realized magic can work in Dead Magic Zones it just can't be generated in such zones. If only the material itself was Antimagic that would be great, but if it radiates an aura, that would also be acceptable. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance! Farewell! |

| KRATOS_BLADE_of_SPARTA08-26-07, 10:17 AM | That is a pretty good point, although with new splatbooks and Dragon Mags coming out every month one never knows when it will eventually pop up. By the way, there are Antimagic Poisons, so that's one "antimagic material" I've found so far. Although you are proberaly correct in saying there are no more. |

| Majick08-26-07, 10:55 AM | Seriously man, make your own. Who need published gear? Just make it super rare, only found in really hard to find places (splits between the plains, or like, from meteros or something) and have it be increaibly hard to craft. Like that crazy ass stuff from Conan the Barbarian cartoon... starmetal, was it? At any rate, there is no problem with doing it yourself! :D |
| Khadmus08-26-07, 08:45 PM | Problem is, starmetal already exists; looking about the same as adamantine statwise... |

Farewell! It's not WotC material, but Monte Cook's Ptolus campaign setting has an iron-like material called marlite that's magic-dead, i.e. it can't be enchanted or affected by spells in any way. It doesn't nullify other magic, nor does it confer protection on its wearer, so it's less abusable than it sounds. A clever character could find interesting uses for it, though. |
| tarkin08-27-07, 11:26 AM | I would rule that any substance that provides antimagic to anything but itself is Epic. Even a substance that itself can not be affected by Magic is pretty powerfull. But keep in mind that you pretty much should NOT be able to Teleport such a material. |
| Slivvy Gaidin08-27-07, 03:49 PM | Cold Iron has mild anti-magic properties, in that it costs twice as much (or some extra amount, at least) to enchant cold iron weapons and armors. By some homebrew creation you probably could stretch this and create something like Cold Iron Filings that you could throw over a creature and cause it to suffer an antimagic field effect... As for stuff that radiates anti-magic... I'm not sure really. I'm assuming theres a monster somewhere (I don't really keep track of new monsters) that radiates anti-magic. Grab its body parts and make a totem or something of it :D |
