05-23-07, 04:59 PM How much AC can a piece of armor have on it, is it possible to have armor that grants a +10 to your AC. It lists what it would cost in the DMG. I would assume a suit of armor with a +10 in AC would be heavy armor? Unless made with Mithral then it would be medium right?

05-23-07, 05:07 PM An armor in itself grants whatever it says in the specific armor's entry.
The enchantment bonus to armor class is +5 for all armors. If you go epic you can get more bonus to AC. The +5 that's left is for magic properties (like fortification), not bonus to ac.

If now meant you want an armor that grants a nonmagical ac bonus of +10, then you have to look in the Races of Stone or the Arms & Equipment guide. There's atleast one armor in there with +10 to ac. And yes it is heavy.

If you mean just the base armor bonus of a suit of armor then it gives whatever the armor says it gives. The highest i've ever seen was 9 or 10 armor bonus (it was in Races of Stone i think).

If you mean a normal peice of armor (such as a +2 Full Plate) then you can only go as high as a +5 enhancement to the armors base bonus.

However, if you are talking about something like a Bracers for armor then yes you can go up to +10 armor bonus.

05-24-07, 12:45 PM The armor enhancements are things you can add on top of the armor itself. Instead of calling it "+13 AC armor with the weight, ACP, and movement restrictions of fullplate", its a lot easier to call it "+5 fullplate".

sure is. it's in magic item compendium. starts..with a....B. but it basically does what mythril does..

did i mention that it stacks with itself and mythril?

A +5 breastplate is still medium armour.
A +5 full plate is still heavy armour.

The +x changes how strong the armour is, not how much is wieghs.

Oh I kinda thought it did, because then everyone would just use a +5 Padded armor unless it adds ACP and ASF, I really dont think it does though

1) yes (mountain plate)
2) yes (yes 2 steps beyond full plate)
3) no, it would be stone and unable to be combined with Mithril. All armour above +8 would be unable to be combined with Mithril.

05-25-07, 10:23 AM Risner is quite correct. Races of Stone is where you will find mountain plate and battle plate. If you are a dwarf one feat let's you use both.

05-25-07, 10:44 AM What would be interesting is an armor construction that is so heavy, that it cannot be effectively worn unless made of mithril. Even then, it would count as heavy, because it's base type was one (new) category heavier.

I guess this would be nothing more than a thematic change. You might as well just use the mountain plate and get the same result. ;)
