What are some ways to get a high Armor Bonus without a Max Dex Bonus?

Lets say you had an extremely high Dex (or high Con for a character with the Deepwarden PrC), such that any max dex bonus restrictions would mean that using Mithril Full Plate would still result in a lower AC than going naked.

Bracers of Armor +8

+5 enhancement bonus on clothing?

Anything else?

Other magical items could include natural AC or improving dex (or other bonus AC stat).

If you use the Deepwarden PrC max dex doesn't apply, so that doesn't matter. By RAW you could have a +12 Con bonus to AC in full plate.

Shields (except the Tower shield) have no Max Dex. So get that +5 Heavy Fortification mithril heavy shield.

I'm assuming at this point that the DM will say it works in the same way Dex does, so looking for alternative ways to get the most AC out of the ability.

Get a +5 Defending version of whatever your primary melee weapon is. get that +5 ring of protection, +5 amulet of natural armor too.

I'll be a barb - might look into an animated shield though.

Thanks - right now I'm after the highest armor bonus without max dex bonus rather than high AC.. I can work on other named bonuses later.

Although that's ridiculous and unfairly powers down the PrC, that is how it is handled in the Living Greyhawk campaign.

On the other hand, in LG, a Monk's Belt doesn't add Wis to AC either, so I wouldn't use that as the baseline.

Essentially, it shoulds like you are trying to get the highest AC possible.

Since only Armor AC can limit your DX bonus, just use Bracers of Armor for the Armor part of your AC.

Then, you just use every other type of AC bonus you can to the max (Shield, Dex, Dodge (which stacks), Divine, Deflection, Luck, NAC, and Buffs to any other stat that raises your AC).

Many of those bonuses can be taken higher than normal by stepping into epic levels, so that there is no mechanical limit to XP, just practicle ones.

Hope that helps.

I just noticed earlier today that Races of Stone has an exotic gnomish armor with a Max Dex bonus of - ... and no armor check penalty either. Even though it's exotic, you don't take any penalty from using it without proficiency. (Although if you do have proficiency it grants you a special ability.) So it's 1 point better than an enchanted suit of clothes.
