| kage inazuma09-26-05, 12:27 AM | does any one know if ther is any aromr that occoupies the armor slot that will bennifit monks with out making them all crap like and use less, other than amulets, rings, and bracers. O.o |
| Tyler Do'Urden09-26-05, 12:30 AM | How about bracers of armor remade into a vest? A vest of armor as it were. Or actually, since you want it to take up the armor slot, you should make it a robe. But it's a monk, so you should make it a gi that takes up the robe slot. Price it 1.5 times as much as bracers of armor. Same prerequisites. |

| Tyler Do'Urden09-26-05, 02:52 AM | No. Bracers of armor grant an armor bonus. A vest, robe, or left boot of armor would then also grant an armor bonus and thus not stack. The monk's AC bonus is an unnamed bonus. Stacks with everything except itself. |
| BadCatMan09-26-05, 03:22 AM | I suppose you could get some enchanted clothes. There's nothing in the DMG for this (ie. no clothes on the Random Armour Type table) though. Neverwinter Nights had special enchanted Monk robes, representing various Orders. A recent thread on this same topic suggested balance reasons as to why this shouldn't be allowed, however. You could just some special materials: silk, thicker cloth. Although statting these would be guesswork. I think Silk might grant some small damage resistance against piercing. This seems like a good thread to put my current question. Do helmets and gauntlets count against a Monk's armour restrictions? |

Do helmets and gauntlets count against a Monk's armour restrictions? yea but could'nt a monk be restricted to how high of an ac bonus "armor" gives, like would a monk be able to wear the "vest of mage armor" with out any penneltys? |
| RavenDrake09-26-05, 07:31 AM | Ok... Anything that grants an Armour bonus that is NOT magical is an ARMOUR, and thus subject to the monk's No Armour Policy. PERIOD. Magical clothes are fine. Cause they're MAGICAL. As long as the armour bonus does not come from physical MUNDANE armour, it's fine... You can have Bracers of Epic Imortal Armour +33. They'll work for a Monk just like any other character(for 30 seconds till the DM smites you and takes them away). There are no clothes listed because an enchanted "[Clothing item] of Armour" is simply a refit of the Bracer's of Armour, which already exist as Wonderous Items(ie, not armour). This seems like a good thread to put my current question. Do helmets and gauntlets count against a Monk's armour restrictions? No, because neither one provides an Armour Bonus in and of itself(without magical assistance), so they're fine on that front... though wearing gauntlets may interfere with monk abilities(like Flury and thier capicity to overcome damage reduction). |
| kage inazuma09-26-05, 08:08 AM | would this be an accectable item for monks or would it be unbalenced ? Zoukens Gi +2 ac +4 wis 2/day temporal excelleration 1/day time stop +10 speed |
| DHP09-26-05, 08:45 AM | though wearing gauntlets may interfere with monk abilities(like Flury and thier capicity to overcome damage reduction). keep in mind that a monk can make an unarmed attack without using his/her hands. So i don't see why gauntlets would interfere with any monk abilities. |
| kage inazuma09-26-05, 08:48 AM | keep in mind that a monk can make an unarmed attack without using his/her hands. So i don't see why gauntlets would interfere with any monk abilities. because thay are conciderd armed and doing 1d3 damage of leathel damage |
| DHP09-26-05, 09:00 AM | because thay are conciderd armed and doing 1d3 damage of leathel damage yes they are considered armed but they can still make unarmed attacks as I understand it.. A monk’s attacks may be with either fist interchangeably or even from elbows, knees, and feet. This means that a monk may even make unarmed strikes with her hands full. |
| Bopple09-26-05, 09:08 AM | If you don't use gauntlets as weapon, you can flurry with your normal unarmed strike. If you use gauntlets as weapon, you cannot flurry with the gauntlets(and -4 penalty for no proficiency). |
| DrMorganes09-26-05, 11:21 AM | "Gauntlet" refers to any number of heavy gloves. The ones associated with medium and heavy armor sets are generally reinforced with metal (or made of metal), but heavy leather gloves could be "gauntlets" as well. A "vest of mage armor" would be an overpriced version of the bracers that would not stack with bracers. It would, however, open the bracer body slot for some other item. Normal clothing (AC bonus of +0) may be enchanted with an armor enhancement. It's perfectly OK to have a +3 silk jerkin (total AC bonus of +3, no DEX bonus cap). This may in fact be a more cost-effective option than the aforementioned "vest of mage armor", though it wouldn't provide its AC bonus vs incorporeal touch attacks... would this be an accectable item for monks or would it be unbalenced ? Zoukens Gi +2 ac +4 wis 2/day temporal excelleration 1/day time stop +10 speedDo not make the mistake of trying to import items from NeverWinter Nights into a tabletop game. While based on the 3.0 Edition ruleset, NWN makes various changes to the rules to make them work better as a computer game. Zouken's Gi is an extremely expensive item: +2 AC = Armor bonus squared x 1000gp = 4000gp +4 WIS = Ability bonus squared x 1000gp = 16000gp That's 20K gp right there. The land speed boost is a continuous effect based on the 1st level Druid (or Trickery domain) spell Longstrider. Spell level x caster level x 2000gp = +2000gp. Temporal Accelleration is the psionic equivalent of Time Stop. You can't mix magic and psionic qualities on the same item, so let's call it Time Stop 3/day. Cost goes something like (spell level x caster level x gold). Time Stop is a 9th level spell, with a minimum caster level of 17. We'll say 1800gp for command word activation, or 275,400 gp. Divide that by 1.67 for 3 uses per day = 165,240gp. Total cost: 187,240 gp You'll need either a druid and a 17th level wizard to work together or have a 17th level cleric with access to the Trickery Domain to craft this item. Not cheap, not unbalancing, but certainly not an item for anything less than a 17th level PC. |
| Jaid09-26-05, 11:33 AM | would this be an accectable item for monks or would it be unbalenced ? Zoukens Gi +2 ac +4 wis 2/day temporal excelleration 1/day time stop +10 speedthat depends. how much were you going to make it cost? if it costs correctly, then yes it is balanced. my best efforts on pricing are as follows: +2 armor bonus to AC: 4,000 gp +4 enhancement bonus to Wis: 16,000 gp 2/day temporal acceleration: dunno. what's the ML? 1/day time stop, command word activated: 55,080 gp +10 enhancement bonus to speed: looks to cost about 3,000 gp now then, for the record you would be mixing magic and psionic items together here, and i'm not sure how that would work. however, i will price the temporal acceleration as best i can, at various MLs, and presume you just combine them following the magic item creation rules as best i can... 47250 gp for 1 round, 64,800 gp for 2 rounds, 82,080 gp for 3 rounds, and anything else is epic. that all assumes command word activated. now then, according to the SRD, you take the highest cost as normal, then add 50% on to everything (because it's a slotted item). also, lucky for you robes have an affinity for multiple abilities, so no price increase there, although this is still gonna be one expensive robe... so then, i come up with a total cost of 160,455 gp for 1 round on the temporal acceleration, 181,920 gp for 2 rounds, or 199,200 gp for 3 rounds. for creation costs, divide full price by 2 for gp cost, divide full price by 25 for XP cost. without the time stop and temporal acceleration effects (why on earth would a monk need those anyways?) you are looking at 26,500 gp (which is my personal recommendation for your gi should be, but heck, that's your choice...), and that would cost you 13,250 gp and 1060 XP to create. |

"Temporal Acceleration" is 6th power and is not the psionic equlivent of "Time Stop" so would'nt it drop the price of it by sum, also would the price decerese or be uneffected if you made "Time Stop" 1/week ? |
| polsemager09-26-05, 02:51 PM | Notice that the speed bonus would have to be an unnamed bonus to stack with the enhancement bonus a monk get's to movement. I only recently found out about that. The speed bonuses from magic items and spells (including haste ) don't stack with the monks own bonus. |

PERIOD.This is a moot point, but note that your statement is not necessarily a truism. Example: A monk can get a non-magical shield bonus (that is not subject to his no shield policy) by taking two-weapon defense. I don't know of similar instance for armor, but it wouldn't be impossible. |

I don't know of similar instance for armor, but it wouldn't be impossible. That isn't a "Thing" providing an Armour or Shield bonus. That is a FEAT providing one, whether it's provided by thier bare hand or weilding a weapon, the shield bonus comes from the feat, not the weapon. You can have a feat that says "As long a you Soverign Glue eight gold coins to your head you have a +1 Armour bonus to AC". THAT wouldn't count against the Monk either. Because coins(glued in place or not) are not armour. IF you were to glue enough coins onto your body to provide an armour bonus with no feat, then you'd be wearing armour and thus subject to the restriction. My comment was in reference to the poster who said something about using thick silk shirts for an ac bonus or some such... I was merely trying to point out that any OBJECT (held, worn, strapped into place, or glued onto your forhead) that, in and of itself, provides an Armour or Shield bonus would effectively count as Armour or Shield(respectively) for the Monk's restriction. |
| polsemager09-27-05, 04:31 PM | even if thay were an inherant bouns???? I'm not sure what you mean. Almost all, if not all, magic items that give a bonus to movement grants an enhancement bonus, and that doesn't stack with the monks bonus. |
