Well lemme think... If you kill the party wizard and wear his skin, do you get powers? If I really have to answer this, then I'm glad I'm not in your group.

As far as making mundane armor out of a creature's skin, it's really quite up to your DM. Aside from Dragonhide in the DMG, there aren't really any established mechanics for making armor out of a monster's flesh, although you might use the dragonhide rules as a guideline.
In any case, the weight and effectiveness of the armor you make isn't based on the natural armor bonus of the monster, it's based on the armor types in the PHB and the size of the skin.

I wrote this on my friends name since i couldn't remember my password at the time.
Ok duh!
WOW, i wasn't talking about gaining the ability to use magic. I'm talking about armor that has inherent magic abilities like SKINDANCER from monster manual 3 its skin reacts to what ever it's hit by. If it was hit by a slashing weapon it gains dr15/piercing and bludgeoning for so long and every time it gets hit by something different it changes. It also gains energy resistance 20 by whatever it was hit by first, like fire, it gains ER 20 fire, and his skin has a +6 deflection bonus. So if you were to kill him and make armor out of his shin would it do all that stuff as well. Thats what I was talking about. Before you insult someone over D&D please understand what they were saying its just a freaking game, some people don't understand this, like you.

jarvis your being just as insulting as he was
calm down

as to using other critters skin there is chitine armor

undead armor

grafts

golem armor

demon armor

dragon hide

most of this isn't what you had in mind probably but you could use monster skins as material components for enchanting armor like say a ring of defense (deflection bonus) would need a sample of skindancer hide from the back to make the mor powerful +4 and +5 varieties

a displacement cloak could very well be made out of displacer beast

That's when it's alive. When it's dead, the skin stops dancing.

You can't gain any of a creature's special abilities or special qualities by wearing dead bits of it. I posed an example that I had hoped would make it obvious. I can see it didn't.

The second part of my post holds true. It's really just up to your DM.

Sure you can. You can make leather and hide armour. Those armour types are body protection composed of skin.

Enjoy.
