| BiSheng03-23-07, 03:53 PM | I'm playing D&D for the second time ever as a Warmage in a military campaign (we're specail forces). I'm at ninth level, I've taken the "Battle caster" feat previously, and I just took Heavy Aromor Profecency. All this means that I can wear heavy armor with no spell failure chance. We also just got a butt-load of treasure from our last adventure in which we captured several expensive navel vessals; I'm willing to spend most of it on some kick ass armor. Other than Adimantium, what are good options for materials? |
| Necromas03-23-07, 05:24 PM | If you're not gonna get adamantine, might as well spend the extra money on better enhancements or magic items. I would suggest mithral, but it's rather pointless to you seeing as you spent two feats just to wear heavy armor. |
| Iver Gearsham03-23-07, 05:50 PM | Arms and Equipment guide book Tesselated Glassteel armor Fullpate goodness tough as adamantium works as light armor half the wieght. It stores in a small box you can wear on your belt/backpack and activates by command to cover you in one round. It runs around 12,000 gp plus special materials another 3,000 or so. You can find Glassteel in Champions of Valor. If you have PHB2 you could use the retraining rules to get back those feats for medium and heavy armor use. |

And regarding mithril, my DM has ruled that, dispite wisard's statments, it does not lower the armor class, just the stats. He takes the stance that characters without HAP just don't now how to move in the armor right, iresepective of wieght. Also, I'm satisfied with Adimantium, but I was just wondering if there was anything better. It might help to know that we are fighting demons on a regular basis (leaders of the opposing army). |

As far as house rules for HAP it sounds good. 2 Why should you be satisfied with hauling twice the weight of reguler armor when you could get the same 20 Hardness and HP per thickness at half the weight with Glassteel? There is Oberium from Stronghold buider's gude book 30 or 40 hardness tripple the weight and HP or something like that. 3 Get Cold Iron Armor Spikes for whatever demon gets huggy squezzy with you, you stand a chance of hurting them. Armor materials generaly don't play a part in fighting monsters unless they carry manufactured weapons of adamantium or have Sundering natural attacks. |

One can't sunder armor anyway. Does Glassteel provide DR/--? If not, there's your answer. |

If a thread is not for the core books just forget about responding it is not worth your time. You may not be able to sunder armor but creatures like Green Slime, Ozzes and rust monsters eat armors that can make your choises important. Glassteel is not metal so rust monster attacks are pointless as glass acid eating attacks from ozzes and slime are negated unless they effect stone. |

Sorry, newbee using the wrong term... I ment to say that he says it won't lower it from heavy to medium armor. Anyway, my DM only alows core rulebooks, no ebberon or Fahron (sp?). Anyway, Plothos is right, I like Adimantium for the DR/-- not the hardness. |
| Plothos03-24-07, 03:16 PM | 1 Are you closed minded? No, but thanks for asking. I've looked at them and often find them not to my liking, so I've not looked at much of them. Personal preference. I don't know why you're getting your unmentionables in such a tangle about it. If so indeed why bother commenting on anything ever? If a thread is not for the core books just forget about responding it is not worth your time.THAT would be close-minded, IMO. At any rate, my post was meant to be helpful. I mentioned that I don't know glassteel so that people would know I am not coming from an expert position on the matter. I may be backwards and core-centric, but that doesn't mean I can't think logically. (see below) You may not be able to sunder armor but creatures like Green Slime, Ozzes and rust monsters eat armors that can make your choises important. Glassteel is not metal so rust monster attacks are pointless as glass acid eating attacks from ozzes and slime are negated unless they effect stone.Fair enough. I hadn't considered these things. However, the post to which I was responding made it sound like it was silly to go for adamantine over glassteel. If the former provides DR and the latter does not, then it's not quite so simple. Granted hardness is not pointless for armor, but the original point stands. |
