Im currently making a fairly high-dexterity, high-level character and have ended up with a +13 dex modifier.
Im planning on using a chain shirt since it is the lightest metal armor in PHB, unfortunately a max dex bonus of +4 isnt really enough, so i tried grabbing the stats from celesital armor and change it from a chainmail to a chain shirt. This gave me a max dex of +10, which is nice, but not enough.
Then i remembered about the armor of the celestial batalion, which is a +7 chainmail with +10 max dex bonus that gives you the benefits of magic circle againt evil and fly for a price of 616,300 gp, but since i do not really want those things with the exception of the max dex i tried calculating out how much it would cost to have just that part.

Here comes the math:

616 300 gp
-490 000 gp (+7 armor)

-120 000 gp
(fly, 3*5*2(duration measured in minutes)*2000(continous)*2(no magic item slot) )

-90 000
(magic circle against evil, 3*5*1.5(duration measured in 10 minutes) *2000(continous)*2(no magic item slot) )

= -83700 gp

or if we do it without the no magic item slot:

616 300 gp

-490 000 gp (+7 armor)

-60 000 gp
(fly, 3*5*2(duration measured in minutes)*2000(continous) )

-45 000
(magic circle against evil, 3*5*1.5(duration measured in 10 minutes) *2000(continous) )

= 21300 gp

So... either its -83700 or 21300... me likes :D

But before i go munchkin im going to ask 3 questions:
1. Have i done it wrong ?
2. What have i done wrong ?
3. How would you price this ability ?

Reverse engineering items is really dubious at best. People on the CO forums do it routinely to "extract" special abilities from unique items and slap it on generics that better fit their needs.

I'd check with your DM to see if he'll even allow you to use this approach.

That aside, why bother? With the gold amounts you're tossing around, why not just swing for some bracers of armor +8 for 64,000gp and ramp your dex up as high as you want?

I know that this method isnt always that great. I usually try it out and then check if the result is plausible, which this one isnt, obviolsy...

So therefore im going to stress the last part, what price would you set on this ability and to make it easier for you here it is in complete form:

+8 max dex bonus
-5 armor check penatly
-20 % arcane spell failure

Armor of the Celestial Battalion
This+7 chainmail is so fine and light that it can be worn under normal clothing without revealing its presence. It has a maximum Dexterity bonus of +10, no armor check penalty, and an arcane spell failure chance of 10%. It is considered light armor, and it allows the wearer to fly at will (as the fly spell). Furthermore, the wearer is at all times surrounded by a magic circle against evil effect (as the spell) which, if dispelled, can be created again as a free action.
Caster Level: 20th; Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, Craft Epic Magic Arms and Armor, creator must be good, magic circle against evil; Market Price: 616,300 gp; Cost to Create: 308,300 gp + 16,160 XP.

I suggest you do the following:

1) Start with Mithral

2) Add in multiple uses of the Nimbleness enchantment.

Nimbleness is, if I recall, +1 cost for increasing the Dex by +2.

I also suggest that with a Dex of +14, you really should not be wearing armor perse, but instead be using Bracers of Armor, +8.
