Is there any way to attack armor special abilities to items that are not armor? What about bracers of armor? I am asking because I have a monk character who is severely penalized for wearing armor, but there are some cool abilities I would like to get that I can only find under armor.

I believe there's a sidebar in the Complete Arcane (or Complete Mage, I forget) that talks about Bracers of Armor. Basically it boils down to "yes, price it just like regular bracers of armor".

I think arms and equipment has some rules on adding armour properties to your bracers of armour. Draconomicon has a gem of fortification, while waterdeep has a ring of fortification.

What armour properties do you have in mind? There might already be alternatives existing.:)

In the Arms & Equipment Guide it allows to add up to +5 of armor and shield magic properties to Bracers of Armor. I can't remember where right now but I also recall that you can add that same amount to magical robes.

Not in Core but I imagine there's something in one of the 50 or so splat books.

Thanks for the help. I found the relevant rules in the Arms and Equipment Guide
