You cannot use a weapon against a pinned opponent, so the option of striking with the spikes as if they were a weapon (making an attack roll instead of a grapple check) is not available against an opponent you have pinned. The actual check that pins the opponent, however, does not inflict damage, in itself, armor spikes or no.

No, the spikes do damage when you make any grapple checks I believe... look up armor spikes... it would say right under the entry. Think about it, how can you wrestle with a guy (basically what grappling is) and not pierce him with the spikes? He would definately be taking damage from armor spikes. Of course, once you pin him to the ground, some of the spikes that would have stabbed him during the actual check would already be piercing him, so they wouldn't do any 'more' damage during a pin. Only after a sucessful attempt of grappling.
