| Bulletproof_Condom06-22-06, 06:09 PM | Martial Weapons Cost Dmg (S) Dmg (M) Critical Range Weight Type Increment Light Melee Weapons Spiked armor special 1d4 1d6 x2 — special Piercing Armor Spikes: You can have spikes added to your armor, which allow you to deal extra piercing damage (see Table: Weapons) on a successful grapple attack. The spikes count as a martial weapon. If you are not proficient with them, you take a –4 penalty on grapple checks when you try to use them. You can also make a regular melee attack (or off-hand attack) with the spikes, and they count as a light weapon in this case. (You can’t also make an attack with armor spikes if you have already made an attack with another off-hand weapon, and vice versa.) An enhancement bonus to a suit of armor does not improve the spikes’ effectiveness, but the spikes can be made into magic weapons in their own right. They deal 1d6 damage for a medium creature. |
| Toxaur06-22-06, 06:36 PM | I would assume there's a STR bonus to damage, based on the fact that you'd be squeezing or pressing your opponent into the spikes, with a grapple. I would assume 1.5x str bonus if using both hands to grapple. Any facts or opinions about this? |
| Grunj06-22-06, 06:42 PM | An off-hand attack with armor spikes would not have a STR bonus as it is considered a light, off-hand weapon. |
| Toxaur06-22-06, 07:28 PM | Not as an offhand attack. Not as a regular attack. As doing damage on a grapple attack. |
| Thorak06-22-06, 08:01 PM | An off-hand attack with armor spikes would not have a STR bonus as it is considered a light, off-hand weapon. Where on earth did you get this? Off-hand weapons always get 0.5x your Strength bonus to damage. Light weapons, same thing, 0.5x Str bonus. Armor spikes are no exception. You'd get 0.5x your Strength bonus to damage with them, grappled or not. |

I would assume 1.5x str bonus if using both hands to grapple. Any facts or opinions about this? The 1.5x STR bonus is for using a two-handed weapon, or using a one-handed weapon with two hands. Armor Spikes are a light weapon, even if used two-handed a light weapon does not recieve the increased STR bonus to damage, just the usual x1. Using two hands to wield a light weapon gives no advantage on damage; the Strength bonus applies as though the weapon were held in the wielder’s primary hand only. So x1. As to the TWF tangent: You can’t attack with two weapons while grappling, even if both are light weapons. |
