What race would be really good to go with the armor spikes.

Armor spikes are not race specific. They are however, flavorful. I would imagine that any race could be seen in spikes, but the flavor would differ.

From the stout mithral spikes of the dwarf, to the long heavy iron curved horns adorning the half-orc, to the sharpenned points of painted oak leaves on the elves chain mail.

Twisted bone for the wood elf, large thorns for the halflling, treated or course with sap and tar.

I think any race would work well, even the shiny metal retractable spikes for those naughty little tinkerring gnomes.

really they are just a mechanic that allow 2-handed reach fighters to threaten at 5' without having to drop, or Qdraw a non-reach weapon. Make them your own, and you will have gone a long way to developing a base personality with your PC.

I think more importantly you should ask yourself, what kind of race do I want to be, rather than seeking races that fit equipment (unless you are looking at EWP for the orc-double-axe, or the gnomish mining pick, etc.)

Personally for their function, i see them more on a half-orc or a human/dwarf melee type. Evil priests and tanks wear them. Raging barbarians love them, and proffessional grapplers find them handy as well.

Warforged. Warforged juggernaut grows automatically it's own spikes and can use them effectively in combat.
