Baned 09-13-05, 02:12 AM	Two questions, involving these items: - Breastplate of Improved Fire Resistance (Resist 20 points fire damage) - Heavy Adamantine Shield of Fire Resistance (Resist 10 points of fire damage) 1) Would a character with both of these items resist 30 points of fire damage (stacking) or only 20 (only using the greater of the two)? 2) Does an Adamantine shield bestow damage reduction, or is that only for armor?
Nom 09-13-05, 07:50 AM	In general, like abilities don't stack. You have 20 points of fire resistance. By DMG pg 283 it only applies to armour, though it wouldn't be unreasonable to house rule that adamantine shields give DR 1/-. I do note that no price is given for adamantine shields, even though they are discussed, so perhaps they were intended to function as light armour for this purpose.
tarkin 09-13-05, 11:06 AM	Strict/Loose/Power game: Resistance does not stack. Anything Goes Game: Ask your DM. Strict/Loose Game: Adamantine shields do not provide DR. They do however count as a Weapon, so I would price them using the weapon sizes. As a weapon, their benefits include the enhanced hitpoints,hardness and the ability to sunder. Power / Anything Goes Game: Adamantine shields, treated as a Buckler = light, Light = moderate, Heavy/Tower = Heavy armor, grant DR.
