| Sylvaroth12-31-06, 01:05 PM | What do you think are the stats for this (http://www.dragonfyredesigns.org/witchblade1.gif) or this (http://www.spawn.com/comics/Spawn/monthly/images/spawn_comic_cover_095_cl.jpg) 'armored claw'? I'd like to know, if you think, there are actual items in the equipment part of the PHB, which resemble them or if they would have to be custom-made. What would an armored claw's stats be, if it allowed for a 'claw attack' (1d4) and protected the lower arm (similar to bracers or a buckler). All of this together with armor/shield spikes. What about a version that covers the complete arm, as well as the shoulder? What would it cost, what would its Craft (X) DC be, etc.? |

| Vaalingrade Ashland12-31-06, 01:31 PM | Cat's Claws Light simple melee weapon 1d4 x2 sla 5gp 1lb This light gauntlet has a small claw on the tip of each finger. Due it its gauntlet design, a cat's claw cannot be disarmed. The cost and weight given are for a single claw. An attack with a cat's claw is considered an armed attack. Battle Claw Light martial melee weapon[/b] 1d6 x2 sla 10gp 2lb A Battle claw is a larger, heavier version of the cat's claw. It cannot be disarmed and an attack with it is considered an armed attack. |
| Sylvaroth12-31-06, 01:39 PM | Vaalingrade Ashland, are those stats you came up with yourself or are they from any published source? Since the spiked gauntlet does not provide a shield bonus, I'd think it is more like a spiked/clawed gauntlet with a buckler (what is the armor bonus for bracers?). |
| Vaalingrade Ashland12-31-06, 01:52 PM | Homebrew. And no, neither of the things you pictured is going to give a shield bonus. They're bracers, not bucklers and in DnD terms, a bracer doesn't grant a shield bonus -- no matter how stylishly outsized it is. |
| Shedeo12-31-06, 01:56 PM | There isn't really an armor bonus for bracers, but there was the dastana from Oriental Adventures, which were basically reflavored bucklers as bracers. In all actuallity, though, that's prettymuch what bucklers were (albeit a bit more shield-like), at least in my experiences, so yes. It would just be a spiked gauntlet and a buckler. |
| Sylvaroth12-31-06, 02:18 PM | That is, what I came up with, when combining a spiked gauntlet with a buckler: Armored Gauntlet light melee weapon Cost: 20 gp Dmg: 1d4 Crit: x2 Shield Bonus: 1 Armor Check Penalty: -1 Spell Failure Chance: 5% Weight: 6 lb. Type: Piercing, slashing This heavily armored metal glove lets you deal lethal damage rather than nonlethal damage with unarmed strikes. An attack with an armored gauntlet is considered an armed attack. The cost and weight given are for a single armored gauntlet. Your opponent cannot use a disarm action to disarm you of armored gauntlets. You can use a bow or crossbow without penalty while wearing armored gauntlets. You can also use your shield arm to wield a weapon (whether you are using an off-hand weapon or using your off hand to help wield a two-handed weapon), but you take a -1 penalty on attack rolls while doing so. This penalty stacks with those that may apply for fighting with your off hand and for fighting with two weapons. In any case, if you use a weapon in your off hand, you don’t get the armored gauntlet’s AC bonus for the rest of the round. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland12-31-06, 02:26 PM | Why don't you just wear the buckler on your spiked gauntlet hand? Even if it as sold as a single unit, you couldn't actually put on a bracer permentantly attached to a gauntlet. |
| Sylvaroth12-31-06, 02:50 PM | Well, I'd say that is exactly, what my version of the armored claw does, right? |
| Vaalingrade Ashland12-31-06, 02:52 PM | What I mean is "Why write it up?" Its already in the PH. |
