Hey, i was just wondering what possibilities there are for a high level character who wears light armour to not have his dexterity bonus spoiled by the Max Dex. of the armour. For example, I have a character who is currently wearing a mithril shirt (max dex +6) and has a dex score of 20. I intend to eventually achieve a dexterity score of 25 by level 21 so i can get things like Perfect TWF etc., is there something i don't know about that can help me to both wear armour and have a very high dexterity bonus?

Why not just wear bracers of armor?

If you use an alternate option from the A&EG (I believe that's the book), you can even enchant bracers of armor with armor enhancements as well.

In the case of the mithral shirt, you could add the Nimbleness property to it. That increases the max Dex bonus by one or two points.

There are +2AC +7Max Dex and +1AC +10Max Dex armors. Also you might consider going for a robe, and getting yourself some AC pumping magic items with charges/Day.

*/Maybe it was a +0AC +10Max Dex armor, can't remember/*

My favorite armor ever is Gnome twist-cloth. It gives +1 AC, has no dex limit, and with the exotic armor feat its bonus goes to deflection. Of course, it looks sort of silly (random strips of cloth coming off of you). Anyway, it's in Races of Stone.

Awesome, where can i find this? And that would stack with the increase in max dex due to it being mithral?

stick with leather and padded man. mithral chain shirts are good too...

or skrew em all, and get some nible mithral fullplate. you'll lose a couple points of max dex bonus, but big whoop there, you're still getting better AC from the armor itself.

and remember, just in case... max dex only effects your AC, -nothing- else.

Nimbleness can be found in the MIC on page 13; I've already asked the question on the stacking of mithral and nimbleness the response is yes they do stack. So having a +1 mithral shirt with nimbleness would have a Max Dex of +7 and no ACP.

You can also throw in dastanas from A&E to improve your AC and they can be magiced as well.

Dastana is cheesy and 3.0, just don't add in Dastanas, they make every medium armour obsoulte compared to the might of chainshirt and dastana

1. I'll start a new thread for asking why people think 3.0 sources cann't be used.

2. If a person only has light armor use than medium armor is not an option. Even if they can use other armor types it still comes down to flavor.

Oh, and as a thread about barbarians in the "That's a DM to do" section went over - at higher levels, AC starts to lose value anyway. Work on items that give invisibility, displacement and so forth. Those will help you avoid getting hit, even when you are fighting something with +30 to hit.

Also note that your max dex on your armor only has to do with the max amount of AC you can get from your armor. I personally believe that max dex of armor should have a way of getting removed, other wise dex based fighters like your self and I. Maybe a 2 feat selection, one that mimics mithral, then a second one that eliminates the max dex of a chosen medium or light armor.
