Armour enchnanment on weapons? [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-08-07, 07:55 AM Seeing as a shield used as a weapon can have weapon enhancement bonuses on it, does the reverse apply?

i.e. As two weapon defense essentially lets you use your weapon as shield, can you place armour enhancement magic on the weapon?

02-08-07, 08:22 AM That a shield can be used (and enchanted) as a weapon does not mean that any weapon can be used (or enchanted) as a shield. Two-Weapon Defense does not allow you to use your weapon as a shield, it just grants you a shield bonus to AC when you have two of them; that's not the same thing.

Then again, some DMs will allow anything and I'm not your DM.

02-08-07, 08:25 AM I would say to go with common sense. Stuff like elemental resistance or soulfire might be fine, others like fortification would just be silly.:P

I was thinking more just the basic +1 bonus to be honest! I know RAW you can't but applying what passes for logic in D&D to the situation it seems to fit to me.

Purely hypothetical musings anyway, I play a bow using Bard.

02-08-07, 09:01 AM Um... I might allow it, if the weapon already was a defensive weapon, and no other weapon -only benefits were placed on it (IE, parrying weapon exclusively).

02-08-07, 09:33 AM I'd allow it, but the weapon could be treated like a shield. That is, if you attack with the weapon, you lose the AC bonus for the round, unless you take an equivalent feat to Improved Buckler Defence. We've toyed with the concept in my campaign before with a parrying dagger that does 1d4 damage and provides a +1 AC bonus, but you can't use it as a weapon and a shield in the same round without IBD, and have to enhance it as a shield or as a weapon separately.

No, the reverse doesn't apply.

TWD can't be used to make a sword/shortsword a shield.

If you used a real shield, the weapon enchantment and armour enchantment are separate and need to be enchanted separately.

02-08-07, 01:33 PM Well... no reason you can't have a weapon enchanted like bracers of armor, though you'd have to see what your DM thinks on pricing. You are probably takeing unusual slot penalties, but then if you lose your weapon you lose your armor so tough call.
