One of my players is looking for a magical armour ablity that allows someone who is not proficent in that type of armour to still use it.

Ease of use armour for lack of a better term.

Does anyone know if anything like this?

I'm sorry, that's incorrect. You forgot to phrase it in the form of a question. :P

There's a weapon ability (+1) in the 'Arms and Equipment Guide' called "Proficient" which, as the name implies, grants proficiency with that weapon. From that, I wouldn't think it too much of a stretch to have an equivalent armor ability as well.

There are a few armour enhancements floating around which reduces the ACP of the armour(nimble, thistledown, padded?). In conjunction with mithral, your goal is to crank its ACP all the way down to zero, effectively making you proficient with it.:P

After all, there is no problem with not being proficient with wearing armour when wearing it imposes no drawbacks whatsoever...

Most classes are already proficient up to armor that doesn't penalize them in some way (beyond the usual penalties of armor).

Ex:
Barbarians lose their fast speed in heavy armor, so they only get light and medium proficiency

Monks Lose Monk AC, monk speed and flurry of blows in any armor, so they aren't proficient with any.

Rangers lose their combat style tree and evasion in medium or heavy armor, so they only get light armor proficiency.

The only class I can think of offhand that isn't proficient in all armors that won't disable some of their special class abilities are psions. Is this what class you are? if not, what class are you and what class of armor are you wanting to use?

Note that there are no non-proficiency penalties associated with a Mithral Chain Shirt, so if it's just light armor you want to use, don't worry about proficiency.

Druids are not proficient with heavy armour, IIRC, which can be troublesome when you are trying to give them dragonhide fullplate.

I have no idea. Perhaps the PHB2? I keep mixing up that with thistledown though...:embarrass

The armour in question is full plate so thisledown doesn't work. with mitheral and nimbleness there is still a ACP of 1 if my math is correct.

So I just need to get it down one more.
