| Allende_William10-21-04, 08:22 PM | Is there going to be an update on the A&EG for 3.5? I just started running a game and have questions about some items in that book. Current questions: Datsana (First question) I know the book says provides additional armor bonus that stacks with both the foundation armor and any shield worn, but have to wear it with listed armor. So getting a plus +1 to ac and shield with one piece of equipment seems pretty unstable. There has to be some kind of update since nothing gives both ac and shield bonus from what I've seen in the 3.5. |

You get a single +1 bonus to AC that stacks with both shield and armour bonuses. Iirc anyway. |

The munchy thing about Dastana is you can enchant it with all the other armor enchantments you would want while your main armor, usually a chain shirt continues to get enchanted with AC up to +5. Though it is within the rules, heavy foritification on a pair of dastana seems alittle...sketchy. Heh. Why would you enchant your dastana with AC? It's much easier to lose and probably can be sundered. (this is not a thread about can you sunder dastana). |

Two +3, for example, cost a lot less than a +6 item. So beyond the fact that you can get your AC higher than you could just enchanting the armor, you can also get higher AC's for a given amount of cash. The fact that they can be enchanted and stack with armor is what stinks for me. |
| Ipsissimus10-22-04, 11:17 AM | Oh no no...they don't stack. Which ever Enchantment bonus is higher is the one that is factored in. a +3 chain shirt and a +2 dastana = a +3 chain shirt, the dastana will only give you +1 armor bonus. The dastana is nice for putting things like +1, then fortification, resistances, etc. This way you don't jack up the price on your actual suit of armor which you can just go straight for AC. Remember Dastana take up the Bracers slot for equipment, so if you really want that +1 to AC and other potential enchantments it's your call. It's not that bad. Soon everyone will be wearing: a chain shirt, with dastana, a buckler, and a spiked chain. Don't forget the masterwork bandoleer and matching potion belt...even i'm guilty, minus the buckler and spiked chain. Once I get some decent bracers the dastana are going to be hung on the coat rack. |
