| Thoeak_Swordsteel03-04-07, 06:23 PM | Is there anyway that I could create some arrows have them bem like +1 but break on contact and do little to no harm? My group is trying to kill of one guys character due to the fact that the guy who's playing it is cheating and its a dragon rider character and his power has gone to his head... So I need a way to aid the other group members to kill him. I had a thought of creating some arrows and then having one of the other characters imbue them with an explosive rune or something so that when the guy shoots one it blows up on him... Can that be done? Thanks for the help! Thoeak Swordsteel, monk of Hextor. |

He's let it interfere with the enjoyment of the game, and now it's up to you to let it kill his character. Get a flying mount/means of flying. Challenge his character to a race to a spot at a distant location. When he's airborn, and the two of you are flying high, somehow cast wingbind (multiple times if necessary) on the draconic mount. The falling damage should be more than enough to kill it and the rider. If he has feather falling items or spells, line up a targeted dispel magic. |
| Lamorake03-04-07, 09:53 PM | The falling damage should be more than enough to kill it and the rider. Remember that falling damage caps at 20d6. That wouldn't be enough to kill a dragon rider PC or the dragon in question most likely. I know I've had an 11th lvl character survive a 200 ft drop with relative ease (fighter type hitpoints). If you are the DM, the best way to kill the character would be to be creative about the enviornment (can the dragon use it's full potential or is it a cramped dungeon setting) and have a multiple CR encounter with the most concentration around the rider and its mount. Try not to make this obvious either. The last thing you want to do is to make it look like you are aiding other characters in the attempt to kill a PC... because that's bad DMing. Of course, the best thing to do would be to confront the person in the most non-hostile way and explain that the PC is causing power balance issues in-game and it's causing strife with everyone else that is gaming. Maybe he will consider not cheating or playing another equal level character of different class(es). If the person is unwilling to make a change, then it is time to invoke the DM right to find a creative way to balance game play. |

Yes, an out of game approach to this would be best- also, if his character is drastically more powerful than the rest of the party, he's doing something wrong. He shouldn't be able to aquire a descent draconic mount until quite a high level, and even then it's going to be weaker than him. Use medium-sized site based adventures. The mount won't fit, so there isn't much his character can do without his mount, right? One trick ponies aren't that powerful. |
| draconic_swine03-04-07, 10:09 PM | I must admit I'm confused. You're looking for arrows that will do little to no harm, yet you and the rest of the party want to kill him? Which is it that you want to achieve? Do you know any of his statistics? Your best bet is to get the spellcasters to go all out on his weakest save, whichever it is. If you don't know which save is worst, then try to incapacitate him somehow, again with the spellcasters. You, then, should just protect the spellcasters, which probably means attacking him. Of course, that's assuming you have to deal with it in game. I agree with Lamorake that your best option is to talk to the player and see if you can come to an understanding. Dealing with it in game could very easily lead to hard feelings. |
| The_sleeper103-04-07, 11:31 PM | Have the DM set up an encounter with a heroic fight that will give the character a chance to charge in and save the day and in so doing get WDF pwned. Like a volcano with a different alignment dragon/dragon rider with the hostage that your sent to protect and make him fly in to a tunnel ozzing a little lava. When the player charges in like the big man the DM tells him that it was actualy an ilusion that that its not all lava and that the dragon rider was even there. The second he enters the lava the dragon would be unable to fly and his character would soon be chared beyond finding and that would prevent a rez. Of course that hinges on him not being imune to fire/lava long as he takes some damage 20D6 would eat him sooner than later, or something equaly deadly. |
