| Acegikmo02-27-05, 08:29 PM | if this thread is in the wrong place, please move it Brandy of Time This seemingly innocent bottle of brandy is only distiguishable by its side effects when you drink from the brandy of time, roll a d20 and refer to the table below fo effects 1 - you revert to infancy 2 - you age to 2.5 times your current age 3 - you find yourself talking to yourself from 6 months in the past 4 - you forget all events that have happened in the last week 5 - brandy of time ceases to exist for 1d20 hundred years 6 - your body regresses to that of an 11 year old child, your mind is unaffected 7 - your mind reverts to that of a 14 year old child, your body is unaffected 8 - your fingernails and hair start growing at an inch every 2 hours 9 - your hair receeds one inch 10 - you feel a slight dizzines and find yourself 5 minutes into the past 11 - your hair grows 1 inch 12 - you switch places with a random character in your party in the womb (both affected play the others character but with their own characters mind until the situation is remedied, if one of the characters becomes impregnated or impregnates another the situation can not be fixed till the child is born) 13 - you become the incarnation of yourself in a past life, generate a random character 1 level lower than that of your original (mind kept or lost to the DMs discretion) 14 - future you gives you any non-magical item up to 2,500 gp, your choice (next time you drink brandy of time, you must give yourself the item, thus losing it) 15 - future you gives you any item up to 25 000 gp, DMs choice but characters can not give themselves an Item they know is harmful (next time you drink brandy of time, you must give yourself the item, thus losing it) 16 - peer into the future and see the answer to any one problem for 20 seconds 17 - your wisdom increases beyond your years (+ 1d4 to wisdom) 18 - you find yourself talking to yourself from 6 months in the future 19 - you have 20 minutes to spend in any time in the past 20 - choose one of the above Brandy of time is self refilling but addictive, each time make a dc 15 will save Some have suggested that the effects should only last a week, but that would remove half the fun now wouldnt it? |
| Patrick Draken-Korin02-27-05, 10:54 PM | a) this thread might belong to the mature board, but i ain't sure. b) i agree, the effects shouldn't be limited to a week, though i would set some time limit to #8 (maybe a month? or 2d6 x 2d6 days?). c) with #7, does a 14 year old mind mean childlike (no dicipline, but retain all memories) or you at 14 (all levels from before age 14 removed)? d) for #13 there is no mention about what happens to your original incarnation- there is a new you from a past life, but is it in your old body, or does this create a new one (you simply stated that a new random character is rolled) e) with #1, does reverting to infancy affect your mind or just your body? f) note that a 14 year old elf and a 14 year old goblin are very different- the elf is about 3 (human terms, maybe only socially- depends on who you ask) while the goblin is 20 (human terms, a guess, i'm not certain) h) same as a (F) except for age 11 i) you mention the addiction of the brandy, but not the ability damage associated with withdrawl (see either the Book of Vile Darkness or the Lords od Darkness (forgotten realms)) j) i'd increase the posible values of the items from #14 and #15 respectivly: 2,500 Gp and 25,000 Gp (it's an artifact!) that's about it (and lokking back it's actually a lot) |
| Acegikmo02-28-05, 03:06 AM | c) 14 as in retaining memories just the mindset d) works like a polymorph spell e) reverting to infancy effects your body but since you are an infant you arent capable of intelligble communication f) We assume that if the character is non human we use the race's equivalent to that human age i) I havent actually read any of the books containing things such as withdrawl symptoms so if you want to provide some suggestions, go for it j) Fair enough, I just used those numbers because they were nice and round |
| evangelion101002-28-05, 08:42 AM | Yea... up the values for allowable items. Its an artifact, and it has to be given away. (although how would the future self have gotten the item... time travel paradoxes) Also, the part about a will save...thats pathetically low, especially at higher levels - even the fighter can pass on a 1 (if you can pass on a 1) All in all, most of the effects are very nicely done. Has a lot of randomness, some silly, some very potent. As a DM, i don't know... time travel is almost always difficult. Talking to a character 6 months in the future? There's a lot of contamination there, but the future self could still tell you the locations of objects he found, traps, etc. which wouldn't likely be affected by the contamination... Also, i think i understand #12 - their minds switch bodies. Still, i don't get the pregnacy part or anything. Anyways, nice job, interesting artifact, but you may want to create a list of little known remidies to the negative effects. |
| Acegikmo03-01-05, 01:39 AM | Pregnancy thing is because the brandy of time would affect the baby as well so we say that it is impossible to switch bodies while pregnant |
