After thinking about it, the closest example would be... Dress Spheres from Final Fantasy X-2.

Don't kill me yet. I swear I thought of it before I realized it was like Dress Spheres. I think think making these avaliable to the party, and the world, would introduce an interesting dynamic.

Soul Stone: At first glance, it appears to be a simple smooth stone, possibly from the bottom of a swift stream. A brand new Soul Stone is a speckled black, white, and grey flat oval stone. After a period of deep meditation, the bearer can transfer his life experiences into the stone, or the bearer can transfer stored life experiences into himself in exchange for his own.

The process of storing class levels removes class levels the bearer wishes from the bearer, and imprints them into the stone and takes 1 minute per class level transferred. In addition to class levels, the bearer may also imprint memories, Alignment, and Ability Scores. Like class levels, these memories, Alignments, and Ability scores, and traits leave the user and enter the stone.

The process of retrieving stored class levels takes 1 minute per level retrieved. All characteristics stored in the stone must be traded with the character’s own.

Subject to the DM’s discretion; a character that violates a personal code of conduct or similar restriction is still responsible for his actions and the negative effects of breaking that code. Even leaving those memories in another Soul Stone may stand to equate to breaking that code as the lack of memory would indicate.

When an attempt to retrieve stored experiences from a stone is made by someone with an alignment that is diametrically opposed to the current Alignment imprinted in the stone, the bearer must make a will save DC 10+1 per class level in the stone or be stricken with 1 negative level per class level in the stone. The stone then becomes unusable for 24 hours.

A brand new Soul Stone has fabricated experiences pre-imprinted that equate to a level 1 commoner. When the stone is picked up, the bearer immediately knows all contents of the stone. A Soul Stone’s contents increase with the amount of experiences it contains. A Soul Stone of a high level character may weigh as much as 50 pounds, while a new stone weighs less than a pound.
