Banatine 05-07-07, 02:32 PM	can an artifact itself be destroyed my MDJ? I would say not, because the power of artifacts is supposed to be far above the capabilities of any player to destroy. I would rule that the magic binding the creature is too strong to be dispelled for the same reason.

But that is an entirely different issue. Dispelling a spell-effect cast by an artifact is different than destroying the artifact itself. Ruling that none of the spells cast by a Staff of the Magi can be dispelled would make it significantly more powerful (and what would happen if your opponent tried to counterspell a spell from the staffl with a similar spell from a different staff of the Magi?)
Vegepygmy 05-07-07, 02:51 PM	I agree with mvincent. If the effect created by an artifact duplicates a spell (like summon monster IX, for example), it should be dispellable, and hopefully the artifact has a caster level you can apply for that purpose.
