Crimson Innocence

I want to incorperate an insectile race in my newest campaign. This race is very similar to the formian, Lawful, almost mindless. but they come from an artifact that constantly spits them out.

I originally thought that it was simply going to be a random die roll, but then thinking about it's lawful disposition, I decided a system would be better.

so it cast Summon Monster Blank, I just would like a nice order that would take time to build higher ranks of summon monster, and spit out smaller ranks.

this is the order I have thought of so far.

1,2,1,3,1,2,1,4,1,2,1,3,1,2,1,5,1,2,1,3, 1,2,1,4,1,2,1,3,1,2,1,6

it's easier to see the pattern if you create it. I took 5, put a 4 on each side of it
454
then put a three on each side of the 4
3435343
and continued downwards.

any thoughts?

The sequence is a standard Log base 2 sequence, and incidentally the solution pattern for the Tower of Hanoi problem.

However, that doesn't really help with your problem. What is this artifact trying to do? What context do the players encounter it? How often are these things spawned? How can the PCs stop it.

The problem with an increasing sequence (which this technically is) is that once the opponent starts to fall behind they will only fall behind faster. The only real way to make one of these work in-game is to ensure that the PCs are "faster" than the machine, but start the machine part-way through the sequence (so there are already creatures out). Thus, when a big one pops out the PCs realise that they need to "catch up" before something even bigger comes.
