i asked CustServ. about the whip and applying Str. modifier to damage.

They answered:
Since a whip is a melee weapon, you will use your STR modifier to your damage.

So There is no mighty quality in 3.5.

Some of us knew that. And since it's an Exotic One-Handed Melee Weapon, an Exotic Weapon Master (CW) can weild it in 2 hands for 2xSTR damage.

Don't forget that this is nonlethal damage, and that anyone with +1 or better armour or +3 or better natural armour takes no damage (PH pg 121).

In the Arms and Equipment Guide (which I think is 3.5 as it's from 2003) they do list "mighty whip" as a new weapon (as well as the "whip dagger" and "mighty whip dagger" that are treated as ranged weapons even though held and which do lethal damage).

The A&EG is, in fact, a 3.0 book.

Note that it's still treating whips as ranged weapons, when that's the 3.0 system, not the 3.5 one.

But you could update the whip dagger too right?

But you could update the whip dagger too right?Yes you can, same damage, same price, same threat range, same effect (deals lethal damage instead of nonlethal and is not restricted to heavily armored foes). Just forget about the mighty version of the whip-dagger and you're good to go. You can also choose that Exotic Weapon Proficiency (whip) counts for both the whip and whip-dagger or consider the whip-dagger as a whip for some feats, such as Weapon Focus (whip). See Complete Adventurer for more examples.

Same goes for the nagaika, a glass shard-studded leather whip from Masters of the Wild. This weapon is identical, except for the looks, to a whip-dagger.

but if i want to be a Lasher too. Then whip and whip dagger is best for using the third-hand ability.

I have the Sword and fist, but can't remember if the Laher PrC let you threaten within the weapon reach?

This is debateable. The Exotic Weaponmaster ability (I forget the name) is poorly worded.
The second paragraph of the ability can be read to allow it to apply power attack when wielded one handed as if it was being wielded two handed, but that's not actually what it says.
The narrow interpretation is that it can be used for power attack as if it was a two-handed weapon. This is not a big deal because it doesn't matter whether the weapon is one or two handed for power attack, just how many hands you are holding it in.

So. Some DMs will allow the interpretation of double power attack, some won't. Both are argueable until we see erratta for that ability.
