When studying a foe for three rounds before the attack, exactly what actions can a assassin take. Can he fight? Can he move silently, hide, bluff, etc.? Could he cast spells? The DMG is somewhat vague.

Thanks in advance.

He can't do anything that would break his concentration. I include...

1) Being threatened in active combat
2) Making attack rolls or casting spells/activating magic items.
3) Using a skill that provokes an AoO

Until I come up with a satisfactory, encompassing definition, I warn my Assassin PC to check with me before he starts his round, so he doesn't get into the middle of something that somehow is too distracting and would prevent the Death Attack.

Basically nothing that contributes to combat. ;)
