| Vietnow05-24-06, 06:48 PM | Some time ago I read a thread that someon made which outlined how to create an "Assault Rifle" type weapon. I remember one or two things about it. Quick Loading and Filling were needed. As was Gust Of Wind permanancied on it. I was just wondering if anyone had a link to it so I could be sure on the rules for it. Thanks |
| terrashand05-24-06, 09:19 PM | I dunno where the link is but I'm liking the idea of this. Dwarf with a repeating crossbow holding the line against an army of puny weak goblins. |
| Rudi_Schteppen05-24-06, 10:05 PM | Yes, I can see it now... Puny Halfling (PH): RETREAT! RUN FOR THE HILLS! Uber Dwarf (UD): HOLD THE LINE! *opens up with his Gnomish Heavy Assault Crossbow, punching holes through the tide of greenskins attacking them* PH: *gets hit with a gobbot of gobbo* My eye! *screams* UD: I love the smell of Alchemist's Fire in the morning! Kinda like Apocalypse Now, but in a fantasy setting. For the kind of thing you could base an entire campaign off of, read GRUNTS! by Mary Gentle. She wrote out this kind of thing with Orcs getting guns... sweet... |
| Kaiosama21405-24-06, 10:24 PM | I made up a couple things like that. One that was used extensively was a modified Heavy Crossbow enchanted with Bolt and Launch Object. It cost more than the normal price for the two spells together, allowing the wielder to attack with it using all of his attacks in a round (instead of only one shot per round) when using the full attack action. It bends the rules a bit, but it's still fun. Add the Exit Wound and Explosive properties to it, and you're dishing out a metric ton of damage to a lot of foes. Besides, having the warforged walk around with a "crossbow" that looked like a Warhammer 40k Bolter was just damn cool. |
| terrashand05-24-06, 10:30 PM | Warforged with a bolter.....all you need now is a +4 Speed longsword so you get the pistol and ccw bonus. |
| Rudi_Schteppen05-24-06, 11:03 PM | Yes, Brother Titanuis, shower the foul heretics of Chaos with holy bolter-fire! Just enchant him with Fly or something, and he's an Assault Marine! For the Emperor, baby! I did whip up the stats for a chainsword, but if anything that's d20 modern. Chainsword: Exotic Weapon Damage die: 2d6 Slashing, 18-20/x2 crit Range: Personal (Melee) I have got to get the Arms and Equipment guide. |
| Insane Pixie05-24-06, 11:20 PM | A) What the hell does a chainsword have to do with an assault rifle? Spare us the pathetic self-plugs, please. B) Anything longer than a dagger or kama attached to the end of the chain is going to make an extremely impratical, especially a shortsword. By the way, if we're still on that note, how would damage be doubled just by attaching a chain to one? And why does the crit. range increase? |
| terrashand05-24-06, 11:22 PM | Warhammer 40K Armies run around with bolters and chainswords as weapons. A chainsword is a chainsaw but made and balanced as a sword my friend. |
| Rudi_Schteppen05-24-06, 11:25 PM | First of all, it's 40k. That's 40,000 YEARS in the FUTURE! It's basically a compact chainsaw. Some of the masterwork ones, from the 40k fluff, have adamantium teeth sharpened to a monomolecular edge. It's a loud, noisy weapon capable of shredding through a human torso like buttah. Also, Kaiosama, please post the stats for your bolter. Daddy likes, and could really use one for his uber gnomish rogue. |
| Insane Pixie05-24-06, 11:53 PM | Ah, I apologize for the misunderstanding. Accept my apologies for the harsh reply. (I probably would have gotten the reference in Warhammer was mentioned before the stats.) |
| Kaiosama21405-25-06, 12:28 PM | Bolter, Heavy 5050 gp 1d8 1d10 19-20/×2 120 ft. 8 lb. Piercing Special Qualities: everloaded Bolter, light 5035 gp 1d6 1d8 19-20/×2 80 ft. 4 lb. Piercing Specail Qualities: Everloaded Both of these are simply a magical variant of your standard Crossbows, the exception being that there is no "bow" to speak of. The final product looks something along the lines of a shotgun (or a pistol, for the smaller versions), and it's inherent magical qualities do not count towards it's +10 enchantment limit. To clairify, I'm well aware that the Bolt spell and the Launch Object spell are standard actions, and should thusly not be able to be used in the same round, let alon on multiple attack actions; I simply tweeked the exsisting mechanic (the two spells together should only cost 4000 to get enchanted on an item) and added an extra thousand for the capability to use it more than once a round. |
| Rudi_Schteppen05-25-06, 04:27 PM | What's cool is I have enough gold on my gnome to get one of these, in Adamantium, to boot! And the artificer in my party should be able to get the Exit Wound and Explosive traits on it. Killer gnome strikes again! |
| Johannixx05-26-06, 02:58 AM | I made an Arcane Archer once that packed a bow enchanted with Magic Missile, and lashed a Wand of Fireball to it. Boom, instant M203. |
