| oddman03-05-06, 09:58 AM | I'm interested in recreating the Astral Vambraces from here http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20060217a (I don't know if it is o.k. to post the actual information here). But I don't want to use Incarnum (my psion is not going to multiclass just for a magic item). I also want to use both the bracer and gauntlet features in one item. Any suggestions as to how this might look (cost, powers, etc) if it were just a straight up magic item? |

A quick and dirty way of achieving this is taking another item/enhancement that already does that - the Invulnerability armor special ability, for example - and simply say that the bracers have the same CL, price, and requisite spells, but makes use of the Craft Wondrous Item feat. That way it would require CL 18th but cost only 9,000 gp (as per a +3 armor enhancement). The other way is using the rules for creating wondrous items. Yet another way is finding the actual item, or a similar one, in a setting like Forgotten Realms or Eberron (or some 3rd party publication) and use it or create your item based on it. In any case, if you find an equivalent item somewhere you'll have to make sure the price of your item is in sinc with that of the official, already existing item. In the example I gave above, a price of 9,000 gp may be too low for a wondrous item that does that. |

| oddman03-05-06, 02:13 PM | My DM has expressed a desire to make it an armor bonus instead of DR. So I can use Bracers of Armor as a template for the AC bonus. I also figure I can use something like a Belt of Strength (or Winged Boots) as the template for the construct trait power. My thinking is that these items grant you a power roughly equivalent to what you get from table A of the contruct tables. But I don't kow of any item that gives you a slam attack if you don't have one. I vaguely remember an item in the Complete Warriior that gives you a claw attack, but I don't have that book at hand. So two questions. 1) Can anyone think of a more appropriate template item for the construct trait power than the ones I mentioned? 2) Can anyone think of a magic item that grants (slam) attacks? (Alternatively should I just used enhanced spike gauntlets?) |
