Attack a Pinning Opponent? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-11-06, 05:48 PM You would not have a 50% chance of hitting either with your lance. That 50% chance only applies to ranged attacks such as arrows. Your lance is a melee weapon.

As far as I know your animated shield can only protect one creature at a time. So it could protect either you or your mount, but not both at once.

08-11-06, 05:49 PM When attacking a grappled opponent with a melee weapon there is no 50% chance to hit your ally. The opponent has no dex mod.

The 50% rule is when you use a ranged attack on a grappled opponent (can't find this in the SRD)

Table: Armor Class Modifiers

Defender is . . . .....................Melee......Ranged

Grappling (but attacker is not).....+0 (1)...+0 (1,3)

(1) The defender loses any Dexterity bonus to AC.
.......
(3) Roll randomly to see which grappling combatant you strike. That defender loses any Dexterity bonus to AC.
