Not join the grapple but just bash him with his pointy stick. Seems logical.

Yes.

The grappled opponent loses his Dex bonus to AC.

And can't make any AoO, cause he doesn't threat any area.

An grappled character loses his dex bonus to everyone he's not grappling.
Though a ranged attack there is a 50% chance you may hit either person in the grapple.

It's especially nice when you have a rogue in the group and he SA's the guy you're wrestling with over and over.

11-13-04, 08:17 AM The rules about this are a little hard to read. Notice that PH, p.151, Table 8-6, footnote 3 only applies to ranged attacks, not to melee attacks.

If you're standing outside a grapple, you can make a melee attack against either creature, with no penalty or bonus other than the grapplers losing their respective Dex bonuses to AC.

This situation provides no flanking, no concealment, no miss chance, no need to "Roll randomly to see which grappling combatant you strike."

If one of the grappling combatants is pinned, that combatant has a -4 AC modifier.

01-07-05, 05:40 PM Well done Kjenks. But there is something illogical if you follow the rules. When you attempt a bull rush, even with Improved grapple feat you provoke AoO (not from the defender), and 25% might hit your opponent instead of you.

Then why not while grappling? When you grapple or when you attempt a bull rush, you move into your oppenent's square. Is there any erratas or official rule for this ?
