| themaskedknight03-09-05, 10:14 PM | What are the modifiers for attacking a prone monster or person with a ranged attack?? Then what are the mods for a melee attack? Please help thanks |
| MikeTheAmazingMuskrat03-09-05, 10:29 PM | In 3.5, if someone is prone, their AC increases by 4 against ranged attacks. Against melee attacks, a prone character loses 4 AC. You can always look this sort of thing up in the SRD (system reference document): http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35 -mike the amazing muskrat |

| kingrthr303-10-05, 11:47 AM | Prone The character is on the ground. An attacker who is prone has a –4 penalty on melee attack rolls and cannot use a ranged weapon (except for a crossbow). A defender who is prone gains a +4 bonus to Armor Class against ranged attacks, but takes a –4 penalty to AC against melee attacks. Standing up is a move-equivalent action that provokes an attack of opportunity. Prone characters do not lose their Dex modifier to AC. |
| themaskedknight03-10-05, 04:51 PM | the defending character/monster is being attacked by someone with the point blank shot feat? |
| Ranger-9903-10-05, 04:55 PM | the defending character/monster is being attacked by someone with the point blank shot feat? The attacker gains the usual benefits if within 30' of the defender. +1 attack and +1 damage. |
| kingrthr303-10-05, 08:40 PM | <House-Rule> Personally, I wouldn't give a prone character a +4 AC against a ranged attacker who was immediately next to them. If you're standing over someone who is lying on the ground and you're pointing a crossbow at them, they should not get an AC bonus. </House-Rule> |

| Sir Ferdinand03-17-05, 12:03 PM | I agree, though if you were standing right next to him firing a ranged weapon, the prone person could get an AoO. Halber And therefore it would make the attacker more careful and it would allow the defender to plan his moves better against the more wary attacker. And all this would be the +4 to AC for the prone character just like is said in the rules. So in the end, going by the logic the +4 to AC should be there if a ranged attacker would be close to a prone defender. |
