| Scobey02-03-05, 12:10 AM | One thing I'm still having a hard time understanding, attacks of opportunity from someone engaged in combat. If I'm standing next to an fellow adventurer (adjacent square) and we're battling a pair of foes facing us. If I off my opponent and decide to move straight ahead through and out of the square my friends opponent is "threatening", does that foe get an attack of oppurtunity on me as I move past him? It seems to me that as I move past him out of the threatened square and he is still in combat, if he decides to take an attack of opportunity on me, he would be subject to an attack of opportunity (at the least) from my companion he is battling. In this situation can the foe get an attack of opportunity at all? |
| strenoth02-03-05, 12:19 AM | he gets a swing atyou, and does not provoke a wing from your friend, becuase it's no different than if he was alone, and in his full attack, swung at both of you on his turn. |
| SureFoot02-03-05, 12:23 PM | Taking an AoO, in and of itself, never provokes an AoO. The exception, of course, is if you choose to make your AoO an action that normally provokes (like a trip attack if you don't have Improved Trip, or a disarm attempt if you dont' have Improved Disarm, for example) |

| introneurotic02-04-05, 07:11 PM | Another question.... I am currently DMing a Darksun game 3.5. In regards to a character that is considered a large target (IE Half-giant that occupies a 10'X10' square) and uses a reach weapon. This character has a threatened area of 20' around him. In regards to this information, say an opponent of medium sized or smaller armed with only a normal sword weapon enters his 20' square threatened area to reach him so they are base to base. With this information does the opponent provoke an attack of opportunity when moving into an this characters threatened area? And if so where and when does the AoO take place? 20', 15', 10', or base to base? And lets say there are multiple opponents for this character that enter his threatened area all in the same round....does he get an attack of opportunity for each person entering it? The reason I bring this up is I thought that a character only recieves an AoO if an opponent is LEAVING the threatened area of a character. -introneurotic |
| Maraxus02-04-05, 07:25 PM | Right, it s leaving the square. So the medium sized character would provoke the AoO, when leaving the square in 20' distance. When there are multiple opponents charging, the big one gets an AoO against each one ... if he can do that much AoOs. But normally you can only make on each turn. With the "combat reflexes"-feat, you can do more. |

| primemover00302-04-05, 10:30 PM | Indeed here's the Half-Giant... From the SRD: HALF-GIANTS • +2 Strength, +2 Constitution, –2 Dexterity: Half-giants are tough and strong, but not too nimble. • Giant: Half-giants are not subject to spells or effects that affect humanoids only, such as charm person or dominate person. • Medium: As Medium creatures, half-giants have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size. • Half-giant base land speed is 30 feet. • Low-Light Vision: A half-giant can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. He retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions. • Fire Acclimated: Half-giants have a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against all fire spells and effects. Half-giants are accustomed to enduring high temperatures. • Powerful Build: The physical stature of half-giants lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a half-giant is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the half-giant is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A half-giant is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A half-giant can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category. • Naturally Psionic: Half-giants gain 2 bonus power points at 1st level. This benefit does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in a psionic class. • Psi-Like Ability: 1/day—stomp. Manifester level is equal to 1/2 Hit Dice (minimum 1st). The save DC is Charisma-based. • Automatic Language: Common. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Giant, Gnoll, Ignan. • Favored Class: Psychic warrior. • Level Adjustment: +1. |

| introneurotic02-05-05, 11:25 AM | -The Half-Giant doesn't occupy a 10'x10' square In regards to this post I am using the 3.5 Half-giant version printed for the Darksun world not affilated with the 3.5 Expanded Psionics Handbook. But in regards to the attackers entering the opponents threatened area, they DO NOT proke attacks of opportunity even with the reach weapon? -introneurotic |
| Nom02-05-05, 06:15 PM | But in regards to the attackers entering the opponents threatened area, they DO NOT proke attacks of opportunity even with the reach weapon?PH pg 137: "moves out of a threatened square". Once you're in a square threatened by an opponent, you (generally) provoke an AoO when you leave. As an exception, there are several ways to leave without provoking an AoO (the "5 ft step", the Withdraw action, Spring Attack, behind cover, ...). |
