Okay, new DM question:

I have an unarmed NPC attacking a PC in broad daylight. The PHB says that it provokes an attack of opportunity. My question is this: Does 'unarmed' mean that the PC doesn't have a weapon on him, or in hand?

It doesn't matter if you have zero weapons, or a thousand weapons...If you make an unarmed strike attack, it's an unarmed attack. Without Improved Unarmed Strike, you provoke an attack of opportunity.

If you're asking whether or not the PC himself is unarmed...If he doesn't have a weapon in hand, he's unarmed, and does not threaten any squares.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the info.
