I was just wondering, if you get an attack of oppurtunity against a creature standing up from prone, do you apply the -4 melee AC modifier (of, if you conduct an attack that provokes an AOA within the AOA, such as a grapple, a -4 melee attack modifier: it seems like the rules could allow an infinite regress of grapple AOAs without any attack rolls actually being made) to the creature, or do give the creature normal AC and attack modifiers, as if it just finished standing up, but is still to disoriented to prevent an AOA? |

A prone creature that stands up while in a threatened square takes the AoO while he's still on the ground, and has the normal penalties for being prone during the AoO. This also means that he can't be tripped (because he's already prone) while standing. |

Tripping gives you two free attacks against your opponent who suffers a -4 penalty to his AC, while simultaneously penalizing his attacks, and hampering his movement options. Honestly I wish there were some other technique that even rivaled it...but alas there isn't. I often feel pidgeon holed into choosing this combination, by the mechanics of the game. Warrior type characters need more good combinations so that they don't have to turn into spiked chain trippers to remain valid at higher levels. Sigh...until Wizzos publish some other feats with significant bearing upon combat however, we're stuck with it. End rant |
