| Cadwyn09-24-06, 03:18 PM | Hmm, me and my GM had a minor discussion about AoOs, and since none of us had enough energy to check the books, I instead direct the question to you, you smart devils you. How long can the attacks of oppprtunitys go, if say both have Combat Reflexes and one is Monk and the other fighter? the chain of events I used as a argument was: Fighter uses a feat (dont know name) and gets an AoO when the monk tries to hits him, The fighter uses this attack as a grapple attempt, and since he doesnt have imp.grapple he provokes a AoO from the Monk, who uses his Attack to Disarm the fighter, and since HE doesnt have imp.disarm he provokes an AoO from the fighter who again tries to grapple, then the monk tries disarm and so on.... Now Im not sure if there is a limit on how many AoOs you get from a singel target, but if there isnt, the AoOs can keep on going until they die of exhaustion or ...something |
| Dalthbar09-24-06, 03:23 PM | AoOs can go as long as someone provokes and there's someone that threatens them that can take advantage of them. Typically this requires combat reflexes and a high dex. But two people with combat reflexes and high dex could go back and forth provoking AoOs over and over until one of them can no longer provoke. Then resolve as normal - LIFO. |
| Cadwyn09-24-06, 03:41 PM | hehe, its reeeeeally wrong that it it is that way. I mean, a round is 6 seconds and if the fighter starts his as a standard action and they spam AoOs back and forth say..4 times each, that means that the fighter made 5 attacks in a round, and he still can take the move action, or if a high lvl fighter makes a fullround attack and the AoOspam came after the first attack....thats a lot of attacks in a round but hey, anything is possible in the land of imagination so I wont loose any sleep over it ;) |
| Kyuketsukiouji09-24-06, 03:54 PM | To have 5 attacks of opportunity, you need 20 dex and 1 feat... So, yeah, you're already starting to push the limits of superhuman ability scores, so if you're that much of a kung-fu master, I don't see any reason not to give you that many AoO. Now, 2 epic fighters with Robillard's Gambit, bare hands, no Improved Unarmed Strikes and Improved Combat Reflexes might just get beyond crazy... |
| Richmud09-24-06, 04:36 PM | To have 5 attacks of opportunity, you need 20 dex and 1 feat... Actually 5 AoO only requires a dex of 18 and 1 feat. combat reflexes gives you 1+dex mod AoO not dex mod AoO |
| Xoran_Swiftblade09-24-06, 07:22 PM | Now, 2 epic fighters with Robillard's Gambit, bare hands, no Improved Unarmed Strikes and Improved Combat Reflexes might just get beyond crazy... except that without IUS, neither threatens while unarmed <.< |
| Seerow09-24-06, 07:26 PM | except that without IUS, neither threatens while unarmed <.< Armor Spikes for the win? <_< |
| Snicker09-24-06, 11:31 PM | hehe, its reeeeeally wrong that it it is that way. I mean, a round is 6 seconds and if the fighter starts his as a standard action and they spam AoOs back and forth say..4 times each, that means that the fighter made 5 attacks in a round, and he still can take the move action, or if a high lvl fighter makes a fullround attack and the AoOspam came after the first attack....thats a lot of attacks in a round but hey, anything is possible in the land of imagination so I wont loose any sleep over it ;) AoOs represent the opponent letting down his guard and giving you a free shot. Think of how many times you could hit a guy in six seconds if he just held up his hands and said "I want you to hit me as many times as you can." |
| Xybot09-24-06, 11:50 PM | Wouldn't that mean being Held/Paralyzed should provoke an attack of opportunity? I mean, why wouldn't it? |
| StruckingFuggle09-24-06, 11:56 PM | That's not quite right, Snicker, but close. Since AoOs happen before the other attack, in the whole time of the AoO chain, only one attack is made - when it ends... the rest are only fractions of attacks, so its a lot less action than the OP thinks. |
| pmurray@bigpond.com09-25-06, 01:34 AM | Don't you only get one AAO per round against any given opponent? |
| folxnumeroso09-25-06, 01:47 AM | Unless you have combat reflexes (which the thread is using for its example). If you mean limit per target, the answer is a simple no. |
| Mind_Blight09-26-06, 01:18 AM | AoO's should not be made back and forth. Since they represent someone letting his guard down, that someone would not be able to respond to another character letting their guard down. Example: if the monk mentioned earlier provoked an AoO from the fighter, when the fighter took advantage, the monk would be too busy trying to recover to strike back. |
| Bulletproof_Condom09-26-06, 03:24 AM | Don't you only get one AAO per round against any given opponent? You get one AoO per opportunity. If the same opponent performs more than one action that provokes, then he draws more than one AoO. It'd probably be easy to just houserule that AoOs never provoke more AoOs, but there's still situations where I wouldn't apply this. |
