| Bulletproof_Condom05-06-06, 02:23 AM | I thought of this a while ago. I meant to post it to see what other people thought but I sort of left it on the back burner. Anyway, here goes. Swifting: This property accelerates the activation of any other properties the weapon might have. If the weapon has any properties that require a standard action to activate, such as flaming, these properties instead require only a move action to activate. Further, if the weapon has more than one such property, swifting weapons enable the weilder to activate or deactivate any combination of these properties with the same move action, even if the properties are triggered by different command words. For example, a character weilding a +1 flaming frost shock swifting rapier could, as a same move action, deactivate the flaming property and activate the frost and shock properties. Weapon abilities that do not require a an action to activate are unaffected. Moderate transmutation; CL 10th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, haste; Price ???. OR Moderate psychometabolism; ML 8th; Craft Psionic Arms and Armor, hustle; Price ???. Now, I originally priced this ability as a +1 equivalent, because this ability effectively becomes more powerful the more abilities you place on the weapon. I mentioned it to my fellow players and they assured me it was overpriced and it should instead be a fixed-price ability, between 2,000 and 4,000 gp. I'm starting to think about maybe returning it to a +1 ability, but changing it to a free action instead of a move action. Suggestions? Anyone? Anyone? Something D-O-O economics? |

I agree. And, to Bulletproof_Condom (awesome name, by the way), I like your idea. I'm not sure about changing it to a "free action", though. That might be a little too much. I was thinking that you could make the activation/deactivation either a move action or PART OF a move action, like when you draw a weapon while moving (with a minimum +1 base attack, of course). With this you could move while activating, and then use your standard action to attack. Combine with Quickdraw and you could draw, activate and move pretty much all at once. That'd be cool. :pint: |

The more I think about it, the more it feels like one of those situational abilities that's either absolutely essential or a total waste of cash with no middle ground. How about make it a +1, but make it a swift action, so you can only do it once per round? |

Yeah, the only enchantments in the DMG/SRD that I can find that would really benefit from this are the elemental (flaming, frost, etc) and elemental burst (flaming burst, icy burst, etc) weapons. The aligned enchantments (holy, unholy, etc) say nothing about a command word, neither does Thundering. The only OTHER enchantment that has an activation time is Dancing, which is a standard action. Would "Swifting" augment this, as well? How about make it a +1, but make it a swift action, so you can only do it once per round? I'd say that this is just fine. And if the character has multiple enchantments, then your move action rule to activate/deactivate could still be in effect. |
