The PHB on page 167 says that "an attended magic item either makes saving throws as its owner or uses its own saving throw bonus, whichever is higher."

Does "makes saving throw as its owner" mean that it gets the total saving throw bonus of its owner or, like a familiar, only the owner's base saving throw bonus?

Attended objects get the total benefit of their users saving throw. Base save, ability modifier and every other bonus you can think off added in.

Or they can use their own save which is 1/3rd of their caster level.

Is this your interpretation of "makes saving throws as its owner" from page 167 of PHB, or is there other text elsewhere that clarifies? Thanks! :)

What Merestil Haye said. ;)

That's the correct interpretation...It makes a save "as you do." How do you make a save? d20+all of your relevant modifiers. If it meant it had your base saves, it would say so, as it does in the case of a familiar.

A magic item’s saving throw bonus equals 2 + one-half its caster level (round down). The only exceptions to this are intelligent magic items, which make Will saves based on their own Wisdom scores.

Quick note, a weapon/armor that has only a numeric bonus has a caster level equal to 3 times its bonus. A +1 longsword has a CL of 3, thus its saves are +3. A +2 longsword has a +5, and so on.

These tidbits of knowledge get tucked away, and it's nice to have them pointed out sometimes, eh?
