| dygon47005-10-06, 01:04 AM | can amunition be made out of Aurorum so that it may be reformed after being fired/thown. just thing because this would be a nice boon to a monk of mine who likes to use srukens. |
| Terraneaux05-10-06, 07:23 AM | I suppose so. Though throwing bright pink throwing stars better be your style. |
| Jaeron Dalur05-10-06, 09:06 PM | It should work but... Just a few notes. 1) If you are planning on retrieving ammunition that hits, you better have some way of reliably getting it out of the body. Arrowheads snap off and get lodged in the opponents body a little too frequently for my tastes (as my idea of a good time is not performing a disection every other time I want an arrowhead back). Also, an arrow's shaft is going to break far more often than it's head so you should have spare shafts and some ranks in craft (fletching). Shurikins don't have that problem and are just bloody. 2) The 50% is just as representative of loosing ammunition ans it breaking. If I were the DM I would just lower that percentage to 25% or 20% and say that that's the rate you lose them at. |
| tarkin05-11-06, 01:42 PM | This is a most interesting idea. Arrows don't break on the metal, but instead on the wood. This still leaves the idea of doing it for shuriken. But if you allow it to work for shuriken, then you have the tremodous abuse of magical pricing. I.E. You price it at the cost of 1/50 a normal weapon, which was done under the belief that thrown weapons will break/get lost, but you are no longer losing/breaking them. Frankly, even if the shuriken are unbreakable, there is no core rule about how often they break vs how often they get lost, so no matter what you will have to house rule something. As a DM, I would consider using the following set of house rules: Ammunition get lost 25% of the time, break 25% of the time. Pure metal ammunition (of any type) is enchanted in sets of 25 (25 +1 cost 2,000 gp). If you use adamantine they are unlikely to break unless they do tremdous damage, if you use auroum, they heal themselves. Ammunition that is not made of metal only is enchanted in sets of 50 (50 +1 cost 2,000 gp) |
| dygon47005-13-06, 08:52 PM | thanks for the response. but are shrukens that much more easy to get lost then daggers? if i treated shrukens as thrown weapons only but not ammunition then would it be acceptible to keep using them. this way it wouldn't interfear with the pricing values. another way is to put the returning enchantment on 50 auroum shrukens so they never get lost and never break (perminently). though i don't know if returning shards of broken auroum shrukens would nessisarrily be a good idea. any other ideas on keeping permemnt shrukens, also are there any items that would supply free shrukens to use. something that emulates the call weapon power from Expanded Psionics. |
| Jaeron Dalur05-14-06, 01:27 AM | If you houseruled in your game that shurikens are priced as thrown weapons and not ammunition then you could easily ditch the gets lost or broken part. Note: Yes. They are alot easier to lose. A dagger is around 10-15 times bigger than a shuriken (rough estimate). |
| Zathyr05-14-06, 02:34 PM | Shortest and best answer: talk to your GM. I looked at the very same thing a while back and convinced myself that there's enough leeway in the RAW to rule either way. another way is to put the returning enchantment on 50 auroum shrukens so they never get lost and never break (perminently). though i don't know if returning shards of broken auroum shrukens would nessisarrily be a good idea. I don't think this works. An item loses its magical properties when it breaks. Sure, aurorum is special and you can put it back together and it'll be good as new but until you do that, the returning property won't operate. The DM could rule, well anything they want, but I think it'd be reasonable to say that aurorum is innately magical and will show up on Detect Magic to help with finding the bits. I still think there's a demiplane of shuriken, where all the shuriken go when they die. If we can just find a way to get a good portal to it.. ;) |
