I'm working on a Goblin Wererat Rogue and trying to solve the problem of leaving my clothes and gear behind when I change to rat form. Normally not a problem, since I'd live in goblin form and fight in hybrid form, but sometimes turning into a rat is bound to be helpful, and I'd rather not have to return to where I left my clothes.

I'm not really concerned with modesty (I've got fur if I want, and I'm a goblin, so who cares about human society's norms anway?), just the practical aspects of leaving my gear in a safe place, and having it still be there when I return. And if I scout ahead and find myself needing to fight, I'd rather not fall back on my pitiful bite. (Oooh, filth fever. You'll be sorry you messed with me in a few days....)

Any ideas?

My DM will probably not allow the "wild" armor and such from Masters of the Wild. Is there any other magic items I can take that would summon my clothes to me, or at least let me smuggle a rapier in rat form? Or hide my stuff while I'm gone?

Best I can think of right now is a glove of storing to keep my rapier in. I'd imagine a Dire rat could manage to roll up the glove and hold it in his mouth. But I don't think he could strap on a tiny bag of holding without opposable thumbs.

I don't see why you couldn't buy a pack saddle fitted for a riding dog and have it modified to fit you as a dire rat. How big are dire rats? Rats can manipulate objects really well. A lot of buckles don't require opposable thumbs.

Use what's on the scabbard of keen edges ,which shrinks and stretches to fit whatever is inside it. Then use the same magic that is on the glove of storing to automatically shrink down all your gear within their pouches when you become a rat. It'd be expensive, probably in the 20k range to make it a suit with pouches, sheath, and backpack. If you wanted armor you'd need a +1 or +2 bonus to make it shrinkable.

Hmm... SRD says Dire Rats can reach up to 4 feet long. That's kind of unfortunate, I was hoping for something smaller. Being a goblin, I'm already "Small" so changing into a "small" rat doesn't help much. I was hoping for something a bit more inconspicuous than a saddle, but I guess a 4 foot rat is kind of conspicuous anyway.

The only thing I really gain from Rat form over hybrid is 10' of speed, and my bite goes from secondary to primary, so it gets a +5 boost. So the primary reason to do it is to blend in with the wildlife.

Maybe I can convince the DM to let me be a scrawny Dire Rat. What's the low end of the range for "Small" size?

Oh, and I'm ECL7 so I only have 11kgp or so to work with. (and the DM put a 5kgp cap on individual items)

I would say "portable hole", just put your stuff in there, roll it up, change to a rat and drag it along... but with 20k it's out of your price range. But maybe something to save for?
