| Bionisam10-14-06, 10:07 AM | I was reading 8-bit theater the other day, when I thought that the only thing better than sword-chucks would be axe-chucks! I talked to my DM about it, he says that if I come up with the stats for it I can use it. This is where I need your help, here is what I have so far: Axe-Chucks Exotic Double weapon Damage 1d8/1d8 (It's basically 2 battle axes with a chain) Crit x3 Slashing 100 GP? I'm going for a TWF Cleric, so I thought this would be good... |
| Haruspex10-14-06, 10:12 AM | That looks statistically like an orc double axe, which costs 60 gp. It weighs 15 lb. though, so maybe your axe-chucks are lighter to justify the price hike. Cool idea though. Maybe your character can carry two at once, in true 8-bit style (remember when fighter had four swords?) :D |
| Bionisam10-14-06, 10:22 AM | Or mabye, since it's lighter, I CAN use 2 of these! How to make it balanced though... Mabye take a bigger penalty than the standard -2? |
| Haruspex10-14-06, 10:29 AM | Eh, do you mean carrying two on your person or wielding two at once? Better ask your DM for that one, I think the current rules state that a double weapon held in one hand would use one end only. Since it's in part a chain weapon, maybe you could make it trip-able. It's your choice ultimately, I'm just tossing suggestions. |
| Bionisam10-14-06, 10:34 AM | I was thinking that if I wield 2 of them, I would be able to make 4 attacks, albeit at mabye -4 instead of -2 each. Would this be balanced? What else can I do to make this cooler than a normal double orc axe? |
| Haruspex10-14-06, 10:45 AM | The penalty would probably be higher (-8 maybe), as you are wielding a two-handed weapon in each hand. Again, if your DM okays it, it should be fine. |
| Bionisam10-14-06, 10:52 AM | What if I take a feat, like " axe-chuckery"? Then I can wield 2 axe-chucks, at a -4 penalty to all attacks made that round. |
| draconic_swine10-14-06, 10:52 AM | I was thinking that if I wield 2 of them, I would be able to make 4 attacks, albeit at mabye -4 instead of -2 each. Would this be balanced? No. You cannot get both attacks from a double weapon if you hold it in a single weapon. The PHB says so ("A creature wielding a double weapon in one hand [such as a human wielding a Small two-bladed sword] can't use it as a double weapon--only one end of the weapon can be used in any given round" - pg. 113). If, however, you really want to do so, I'd suggest creating a feat with pretty hefty prerequisites, including a minimum BAB (probably +6), weapon focus in the weapon, and at least one other feat (maybe two-weapon fighting). I'd possibly still include the -4 penalty to attack you suggested. You are trying to do something explicitly against the rules, after all. I'd like to see if others think this is too strict. What else can I do to make this cooler than a normal double orc axe? When I first saw the thread's topic, the first thing that came to mind was that a flail that deals slashing damage would probably be the best representation. This agrees with Haruspex's suggestion to make it a tripping weapon. Use the stats for a dire flail, make it do slashing damage, and presto. The dire flail, with it's tripping mechanic, is pretty cool already, and I think the flavour of it being an axe makes it even cooler. |

But the nature of the weapon ('chucks) makes it possible to use both ends in a single round, this is what I'm basing it off of. http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=041026 |
| draconic_swine10-14-06, 11:10 AM | You're basing it off a comic where the author can do anything he wants and the laws of physics are at his command. I'm basing it off of the core rules. What you're doing is simply not allowed. If you can't do it with a weapon made for a creature smaller than you, why can you do it with a weapon your size? That said, if you really want to do it as you've suggested, go ahead. It's just not balanced. |
| Bionisam10-14-06, 11:14 AM | I wish my DM would check his E-mail more often... Anyway, currently, I'm TWF with a Dwarven waraxe and a Light mace, I'm a cleric with the war domain, so I get WF and Prof. with the waraxe, I was trying to make the chucks better than what I already have. |
| ShinAkuma210-14-06, 11:32 AM | That said, if you really want to do it as you've suggested, go ahead. It's just not balanced. Oh, c'mon. You're really taking a [weapon]-chucks thread that seriously? He just wants to have some fun with a silly weapon. |
