| criticalstriker05-06-07, 12:16 AM | Xig struck the crystal one last time, a piece breaking off exactly the way he needed it too. He then took up the hilt, and secured the newly formed crystal blade into the hilt. He turned to the Wise One, who had been watching over the entire crafting process. The old kobold inspected the blade, then gave it back and said. "Excellent work." Xig looked at his new blade, and thought. "And you're sure? You wanted to be a dagger?" A womans voice began to speak within his head. "Yes, im sure." Azier Crystal is a deep blue, slightly see through crystal. That grows inside of a bamboo-like stalk. It was first mined, and refined by kobolds, who revered the crystal's intelligence and strength. It is very rarely found outside of kobold society. Very few Crystal Shapers exist anymore, and as a result, there are very few blades made from Azier Crystal left. Azier Crystal has a mind of its own, and will not allow any one with a personality not compatible with the crystal to shape, or use it. If some one the crystal doesn't like tries to shape it, the crystal crack and becomes useless. If some one who the crystal doesn't like, or doesn't belong to tries to use it, they will try there best to miss what ever target the user is trying to hit. Imposing a -4 to hit with the blade. Azier Crystal, when it is being formed into a weapon it wants to be gives a +5 to craft checks, as it breaks the exact way that is needed. Azier Crystal forms an extremely sharp blade, it gain damage as if it was a weapon of one size category larger than it is. Blunt weapons, such ass a Quarterstaff, dont gain any benifits from this. Only weapons up to the size of a medium longsword can be made from a single stalk of Azier. The only way to great weapons of a larger size is to combine multiple crystals. The crystals wont allow them selves to be made into a single weapon, without getting along. Which rarely happens. It requires a DC (20 +5 per extra stalk of Azier needed in the making) Diplomacy check. If some one tries to force the crystals to work together, they shatter and become useless. Each Azier crystal has its own personality, motives, and independent thoughts. They have an INT, WIS, and CHA of 10. So, what do you think? |
| JLaurHughes05-06-07, 02:57 AM | An interesting idea. These are treated as masterwork weapons I would assume. They can be forged/shaped into a Hand Axe? |
| criticalstriker05-06-07, 09:59 PM | Yeah, they can be crafted into any melee weapon. |
| JLaurHughes05-06-07, 10:12 PM | Hmm...You're hired. You should set a maximum length as some weapons exceed 6ft. Good for most bladed weapons, but what about weapons like the Quarterstaff or three sectioned staff? |
| criticalstriker05-06-07, 10:26 PM | The reason i didint set a maximum length was because of just how tall the stalks of Azier get, about 17-20 feet tall. I probably should include that in the description... As for the Quarter staff, i changed it so that it doesent gain the benifit from increased damage. A blunt weapon doesent have a blade... most of the time:P |
| Kopana05-09-07, 12:25 AM | Brings up terrible memories of an annoying talking sword in a game I played once, nonetheless I appreciate it for what it is, and if your weapon ISN'T some annoying little prick voiced by a thirteen year old prepubescant boy, then maybe it'd be worth keeping around. I kinda want one now :) |
| shavna05-09-07, 01:47 AM | I like the idea, I'll keep it in mind for future campaigns. It's an interesting way to bring intelligent items into a game at lower levels since it isn't magical, though I just had a thought did you think about a price for the weapons made out of it since it is a special material. |
| criticalstriker05-09-07, 03:23 AM | I haven't really put any thought towards pricing because, Azier Crystals don't tend to allow people who aren't their creator to use them. I guess i would price it around +600 for simple weapons, and +800 for heavy weapons. |
| JLaurHughes05-09-07, 10:41 AM | I'm curious, can the item be considered psionic, and used in the same way as a psi crystal? |
| criticalstriker05-09-07, 02:18 PM | Yes, they could be considered psionic. As for the psi crystal thing, i haven't read much on them, but if the Azier Crystal agreed to it, i believe so. |
| JLaurHughes05-09-07, 05:53 PM | Hmm, I can see a lot of applications for the crystal. Like Perhaps a sorcerer created an entire palacial home out of the crystal. All that he could find, including inducing the growth of the azier crystal in some way. |
| criticalstriker05-09-07, 06:18 PM | As long as the Azier Crystal hasn't been formed into a weapon, it can be planted just like any other plant. It will grow into a stalk of about 15ft in about 4 months. |
| JLaurHughes05-09-07, 06:59 PM | Good to know. :mage: Each stalk has a personality, as per the original information you provided. Can be considered psionic, giving bonuses similar to a Psicrystal(P.21-24 EPH). This is a summary of what I've mentioned in passing thought, or gleaned from the information. The +5 bonus you mentioned is actually mentioned twice with both times meaning the same thing, I think this was just an oversight though so I'm not worried about it. -4 if an inappropriate person uses the weapon, seems a little odd since the only characters who will use the weapon are going to be the ones who the weapon will like. Unless you mean this as information for the DM who might have a villain steal one of the weapons. Or throw a bit of a loop to the player who now has a -4 to his attack after getting a weapon "back" from a "villain." Oh the possibilities. |
| criticalstriker05-09-07, 08:08 PM | Yeah, i posted the craft thing twice because i forgot i posted it... And some how missed it when i re-read it o_O |
| JLaurHughes05-09-07, 08:43 PM | It's a creature that doesn't move on its own, can probably use spells stored in staff, wand, or ring(when it is fashioned into one of these items). Can be used as a building material and weapons. If I don't miss my guess about this, with the right Magic item creation feats and spells it can actually cast spells stored in the weapon itself, provided the spells were cantrips(Int 10, Cha 10 and Wis 10). |
| criticalstriker05-10-07, 08:25 PM | Any one else care to comment? |
| JLaurHughes05-11-07, 10:35 AM | I don't see other comments yet either, abyway, I've got a creature idea in my mind that I want to do, I'll be posting it on the New Golem's thread. Link to all the golems on the thread is in my sig and I'll be adding more as more golems appear on the thread. |
