| Pickle05-19-05, 01:43 AM | You will have to pardon me as I do not have the books in front of me and it is late and I am trying to avoid Italian homework. I was looking at bear warrior and the bear forms that you can assume give you strength, dex, con and AC bonuses, but it says that you retain your BAB. Now a bear has the claw, claw, bit attack, but how does that work when a character has 20 BA? As an animal do you still just get the three attacks or do you get more? Thanks, Pickle |

Thanks, Pickle You must follow the bear attack routine. Natural weapons never benefit of iterative attacks due to high BAB. Che cosa intendi per "Italian homework"? Studi Italiano o sei un Italiano con poca voglia di cimentarsi nei propri compiti scolastici? |
| Nom05-19-05, 07:06 AM | The retaining BAB is significant because your attack bonuses are still based on it. For example, a poler bear (MM pg 269) has 8d8+32 HD, is Large, and has Str 27. 8 animal hit dice give it a +6 BAB. It's primary natural attacks (2 claws) are thus at 6 (BAB) + 8 (Str) - 1 (size) = +13. It's secondary natural attacks (1 bite) are at an additional -5, or +8. Note that a creature can have multiple primary natural attacks (eg 2 claws) and that all secondary natural attacks are at -5, regardless of how many there are. Creatures do not gain (or lose) natural attacks for high BAB (or low) BAB. A badger (BAB +0) still gets 3 natural attacks (2 claws +4 and 1 bite -1). In the case of creatures that have both natural attacks and can use weapons (eg minotaur or troglodyte), the creature gets both an iterative attack sequence with their weapon and their natural attacks. However, all natural attacks are treated as secondary (-5), even those that were previously the primary attacks. In addition, any hand / claw that wields a weapon (or shield) prevents the creature from making a natural attack with that hand. Final note: some creatures possess the Multiattack feat and only suffer a -2 to secondary attacks. |
