Baculus
Dmg.: Small/1d6 Medium/1d8
Critical: x2
Weight: 8 lb.
Type: bludgeoning

Somewhat shorter than a quarterstaff, the baculus can be used two handed against adjacent and also can be swung two handed as a reach weapon. An inexpensive weapon commonly employed by conscripts and soldiers. They were sometimes carved with features or depictions of battle scenes the soldier had fought in.

I have two question. What should it classify as, and should wizards, sorcerers or druids ba allowed them as class weapons?

This is pretty much a spiked chain (2d4 = 1d8ish, same crit, reach and adjacent hitting), minus the tripping, disarming, and finessing. However, it's now bludgeoning, which means you can sunder with it.

I'd put it as an exotic weapon, as is, and give no one automatic proficiency.

However, what's with the reach? A quarterstaff, which you say is longer, can't be swung with reach, so why can this? If you drop the reachability, then it's pretty much a worse version of the greatclub, which is also two-handed. Simple weapon maybe? As a simple weapon, all of those classes would be able to use it probably.

Its basically a greatclub, but thinner and longer. It can be swung as a club, but is just short of a quarterstaff. Meaning one could swing it from its thinner end as a reach weapon, or closer to the middle similar to a quarterstaff but can't use both ends like a quarterstaff. What if I make it as long as a quarterstaff?
