The kris is a particulary nasty blade about two feet long (for a Medium creature) with an undulated edge that cuts unevenly, effectively tearing flesh instead of slicing it. Because of this, it is more difficult to heal damage dealt by a kris - any attempts to heal damage dealt by a kris, as well as saving throws against poison applied to one, are at +2 DC. Magical healing overcomes this perfectly fine, of course.
Kris are exotic weapons, though they can be weilded as a shortsword by anyone proficient in them - when used like this, they have a shortsword's less favorable damage and threat range, do not hamper healing, and do not benefit from any feats that benefit shortswords, such as Weapon Focus: Shortsword as they are balanced differently enough that a degree of expertise in shortswords is not applicable, though a general proficiency is.

Kris (exotic, one-handed)
40 GP, 3lb
Dmg (m)1d8 (s)1d6 slashing
Critical 18-20/x2

it seems a bit too powerful even for an exotic weapon, either have it at 19-20 crit, or dealing 1d6 damage but not both (personally i'd drop it down to 1d6 damage)

Actually, I think that it's balanced. Remember, upping damage or threat is the same balance wise. It's basically a scimitar with a stepped up damage. I also like the +2DC to heal and poison, though I don't think that will come into play that often.

Nice job.

A rapier is 1d6 18-20 crit and is one handed martial.

This weapon is in line with the Great Scimitar or the Boards Revised Katana (minus the hand and a half)

I did a little more research, and it turns out most could also be used as piercing weapons, in wich case they cut similarly to bayonets (though they greatly predate them) due to the undulation - the only one I'd ever handled did not have a sharp tip, so it hadn't occurred to me.

So how about this variation? More accurate, and I kind of like the style..

Kris (exotic, one-handed)
45 GP, 3lb
Dmg (m)1d8 (s)1d6 slashing or piercing
Critical 18-20/x2 when used as a slashing weapon.
Critical 20/x3 when used as a piercing weapon.
The Kris benefits from Weapon Finesse ONLY when used as a piercing weapon.
+2 DC on heal checks from wounds dealt by the Kris and saves against poison applied to the Kris

Did that make it too powerful for a normal exotic weapon? If I understand correctly, 20/x3 is considered a weaker threat than 18-20/x2, and I don't see making it finessable as piercing being game-breaking by any means (unless there is something that makes finesse/ x3 too strong?) I dropped the 'usable as shortsword' part because looking back it's pointless, there is no reason to use it instead of a shortsword without the feat yet is costs MORE.

Also, how is the price? Here's how I came up with it..
A bastard sword is an exotic longsword with a die higher damage, plus a special feature. It costs 20 gp more.
A dwarven waraxe is an exotic greataxe with a die higher damage. It costs 10 gp more.
The Kris could be seen as an exotic scimitar with a die higher damage and a special ability. But the special ability is still useful with EWP, unlike the bastard sword, so instead of making it 20 gp more (35), I nudged it up to 30 gp more.

I may be way off, of course...

Remove the +2 to heal checks and you're golden.

Pity, I liked that mechanic.

Ah well. As much as one part of my brain says "it woun't come up often enough to be unbalancing", another part says "Assassin". If I leave it, there is no reason any poison-using melee character would ever want another weapon. It's TOO perfect for them.
