| Strogg11-15-06, 03:28 PM | ok i am making a barbarian with a dex of +5 and i need help finding out what armor would be the best for me. I have 28,000 left and 2 feats. can anyone help me out? |
| Tarkwin11-15-06, 03:37 PM | mithral chain shirt and with that much money it can be upgraded as well, or rhino hide is fun for raging barbarians to. both in the dmg. T |
| tarkin11-15-06, 03:48 PM | Part of the issue is how much do you want to prepare for the future? Sure, your Dex is currently +5. What happens when you buy/upgrade Gloves of Dexterity? Also, are you planning on boosting that armor up a lot, if not, consider getting Nimble, +2 to max dex for a mere +1 armor increase Most people will suggest you get a Mithral Breastplate. You get the highest armor possible at your current full Dex, with only a -1 Armor Check penalty Then pump it up with magic. It leaves you with upto a +4 dex improvement by using (bringing your total Dex bonus to AC to +7), if you enchant it with Nimbul (+1 cost, +2 net to AC). But another option is to go with Rhino Hide Armor. Low price and lower AC (you give up +1 of your Dex and +2 of straight Armor), but if you charge a lot that +2d6 to damage is worth it. If you are not using a Two handed weapon, consider getting a shield. They are a cheaper way to really boost your AC and also get additional magical enchantments. If you are willing to spend more money, I like the Mithralmist shirt, which costs 21,300 gp, from Complete Arcane. 7/day you get a square full of mist that you can see through, but offers you concealment (20% miss chance). Well worth it. And of course there is the Celstial Armor from the DMG. +3 Chainmail with a +8 max dex (a lot of room for growth if you boost that Dex) plus FLY 1/day |
| Shaggy_Shaggs11-15-06, 03:52 PM | Not a bad Dex mod. For a barbarian with that, and that much money, I'd be going for a +1 mithral shirt of moderate fortification (armor bonus +5, 75% chance to ignore crits/sneak attacks, ACP 0, 10 lb, 17,100 gp), using my feats on Combat Reflexes and Robilar's Gambit (assuming the BAB requisites were met), and making life very difficult for fast attackers. I'd also be seeking out weapon crafter druids and/or clerics to do favors for, and dreaming about eventually calling in my favor debts for an adamantine wrathful healing falchion (which, in the very long term, I'd want upgraded with the weapon of transmutation enhancement). |
| Strogg11-15-06, 04:25 PM | ok guys i will tell you how this started. my friend said make a lvl 10 guy. i use a template with a +3 la so i can only be lvl 7 but i am still treated as a lvl 10 for cash. barbarian is my class. our dm just said you have 49k to spend. can you guys help me with a good build? I spent 10k on belt of str (+2). I would prefer to use a two handed sword. can you help? |
| tarkin11-15-06, 04:36 PM | If you can convince the DM to allow the abusive Wrathfull enchantment, go for it. But don't be surprised if he says "No, you can't get more than +1d6 of healing for every +1 in the weapon enchantment, just like you can't get more than +1d6 of damage for elemental damage." |
| Shaggy_Shaggs11-15-06, 04:41 PM | I'd ditch the template if possible. For someone who likes two-handers, BAB is way important... that's your Power Attack, after all. Something I whipped up quickly awhile back and used for a demonstration at 8th level (that ended up doing 90 damage in the first round with no crits) was a human barbarian 2/fighter 6 with feats 1: Dodge Human: Combat Expertise 3: Karmic Strike Fighter 1: Combat Reflexes Fighter 2: Power Attack 6: Leap Attack Fighter 4: Improved Bull Rush Fighter 6: Shock Trooper Karmic Strike and Shock Trooper are in Complete Warrior, Leap Attack is in Complete Adventurer, if you lack one or both books it's not very relevant but if you have both, look them up and you'll get the idea. (Heedless Charge is fun. ) |
| AmariltheBard11-15-06, 04:41 PM | check out warhammer of sacrifice in armor and equipment guide i like it for the extra dmg and attack bonus... |
| Strogg11-15-06, 05:18 PM | guys my template gives me +4 str. my str is at 22. then i got belt of str so my str went to 24 (modifier of 7) and while i rage i can get it up to +17 modifier thanks to wild fury i think it is called. attack bonus really isn't a problem. and the sword i am thinking of using is a +2 addimantine icy great flachion (+2 to attack bonus, ignores 20 hardness, 1d6 ice dmg, 1d12 crit 18-20 x 2) i chose that because my dm loves golems. i might remove the icy though. Right now i am worried about ac. i have 26 with 2 dr. i have a +6 wildwood chain. got the two dr with the class abbility and one feat. |
| runestar11-15-06, 09:38 PM | A mithral breastplate fits in nicely with your dex mod. :) |
| VonRichthofen11-16-06, 04:04 AM | . i have a +6 wildwood chain. Since you already have an EPIC armor at 10th ECL, what's your worry? Commomly accepted rules do not seem to figure prominently... |
