| DBow04-12-05, 07:15 PM | Alright, this is (currently) purely hypothetical but, I'm just wondering. I know that at certain Base attack bonuses, characters gain extra melee attack(as a full round action right?). Anyway, my question is in that, I'm a sorcerer planning to become a dragon disciple. So if I were to reach the bonus that gets me 2 attacks, would I then eb able to use my claws/bite attacks twice each, one of em twice, or what? Second question, is there a cap that a certain bonus reaches to move up to giving you 2? or is it completely detailed within the tables? I ask because, yet again, the DD will give me some BAB bonuses, and I was wondering if those would let me reach the multiplying factor faster. Lastly, the dual or triple attacks can only be used by melee? or ranged as well? Thanks! |
| Colmarr04-12-05, 07:38 PM | First question Creatures (including PCs) never get iterative attacks with natural weapons. Up until BAB +6, your full attack routine would be bite/claw/claw (unarmed) or weapon/bite/claw*. The second two attacks in each chain would be at -5 unless you have Multiattack, which would make it -2. Once you reach BAB+6, you get iterative attacks wirh your manufactured weapon, but still just one attack with each of you natural weapons. So your full attack routine at BAB+6 (ignoring other modifiers) without multiattack would be weapon +6/weapon+1/bite+1/claw+1. Second question I'm not entirely sure what you mean. If you're still talking about BAB, the second iterative attack always comes at BAB+6, the third at +11, and the fourth at +16. There is no quicker way to reach them than taking classes or races with BAB advances of 1 per HD. Third question Iterative attacks can generally be taken with any manufactured weapon. The only exceptions are weapons that specify otherwise or which take an action to reload (such as a crossbow). *Note that the MM says that creatures using manufactured weapons use them as their primary attack unless otherwise noted. |
| DBow04-12-05, 07:45 PM | aha, thanks a million for the answers so far, and you answered the second question as well. Now that I understand it better, i can phrase it properly maybe? Well, what I was asking was if, as I think you described, reaching a certain BAB would grant you the additional attack or if it was based upon your class. But I assume from your response that you mean to say that one you hit a +6 BAB, you gain an additional attack, regardless of if its from one or more classes, correct? |
| Colmarr04-12-05, 07:54 PM | That's right. You get your second attack at BAB+6, regardless of how you got there. Class and HD are irrelevant (although it's impossible within the rules to have a BAB higher than either your HD or class levels). So a Ftr6 would qualify (+6 from class), as would a Clc3/Ftr4 (+2 from cleric +4 from fighter), or a Gargoyle Barb2 (+4 from gargoyle HD +2 from barbarian). |
| DBow04-12-05, 08:15 PM | thanks alot then, this should help em plan out my character levelling and weaponry... also, when the hell do i level up faster than one level every... 6-ish hours? |
| Salla04-12-05, 08:38 PM | thanks alot then, this should help em plan out my character levelling and weaponry... also, when the hell do i level up faster than one level every... 6-ish hours? ... You think that's *slow*? |
| DBow04-12-05, 10:11 PM | yeah, when i play once a week and 6 hours IS a session, then i think its slow. By that rate, by the time I hit the really cool abilities, it'll be summertime. Well into the summer |
| Tony11104-12-05, 10:35 PM | The DMG assumes you play once per week for four hours and that there are four weeks per month. Therefore, you will play 16 hours per month. It further assumes that you will gain one level per month. 1 level = 1 month real time = 16 hours of D&D real time In your campaign, you are gaining a level every 6 hours, or 2.5 times faster than the assumed rate. And you think that is slow? My advice would be to try to enjoy the ass-whupping you can deliver in the present rather than focusing on what you can do after you get this ability and that ability and such and such combo. -Tony |
