has anyone made a good one? (IMO the best ones grant AC bonus's and added damage of sorts) i play a frontline melee role.......and the reason i ask about the weapons is that my DM is trying to work a legacy in for each character (we use modified rules for legacy weapons so that they dont cripple the character at all)

I made several. Crusader's Pyre, a greatsword with a lot of fire and holy abilities such as a bonus to speed, a burst centered on you and wall of fire (and a +6 sacred bonus to strength is pretty useful). Death's Embrace, which is a greatsword that grants several undead related abilities.

First pick abilities that look cool to the wielder, then make up the story. The Weapons of Legacy splat books has tables that you pick off of every level. After you get used to the power level of abilities then start tinkering with custom abilities.

It'd be better just to throw something together, post it here, and work on it with the advice you get until it seems perfect.

Eh, good for a novice, but be more creative with those abilities.

I've had two interesting large swords over the years.

The first wasn't a 'legacy weapon' so to speak, but rather a 'covenant item' from the Midnight campaign setting.

It was originally called 'Nightbringer', as it was carried by a mid-level BBEG that my character killed in a triumphant single combat.

The weapon started out as a +1 bastard sword. Long story short, by the time my character hit 11th level, it was a +2 keen bastard sword that granted the Combat Reflexes feat, allowed the wielder to burn an AoO to make an opposed attack roll to parry an incoming melee attack, and dealt an extra 1d6 holy damage to foes of his chosen patron deity. Several levels of Barbarian, two levels of Fighter, one level of Exotic Weapon Master, and two levels of Wildlander (the setting's Ranger equivalent), and I had a pretty useful melee tactician.

The second sword was the original masterwork greatsword that my fighter/bard purchased during character creation. We eventually enchanted it to +1, but it was turned to obsidian by a monster that the character slew. The sword survived, was effectively glassteel, and later was enchanted with some pretty effective fire-related abilities. I just put Impaling on it (3/day use Swift action to treat the next attack made that round as a touch attack), and that's worked out pretty well so far when used in conjunction with a lot of Power Attack. So, now it's effectively a +2 Impaling Flaming greatsword with some other fire abilities. The mid-level fire ability is usable twice per day, while the really nasty fire ability is only usable once per week.
