| ForcedEvolution09-05-05, 07:59 AM | I was wondering. I bastard sword is a two-handed weapon when not trained with it. Does this mean that the Bastard Sword qualifies for the extra damage from power attack as if it were a two-handed weapon. If so that would mean that a character with Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword) would have the option of one-handed or two-handed use with full benefits. I would assume you don't get the extra damage because its listed as a 1-handed exotic weapon. Just checking to see what others make of this. |
| Kikoskia09-05-05, 08:38 AM | As far as I know, you don't get the benefits. it is a one handed weapon. |
| rks09-05-05, 08:45 AM | If a bastarsword is used with two hands gives a higher bonus when power attacking. If it is used in one hand it doesn't. |
| Tainted Geomancer09-05-05, 09:50 AM | When wielding a two-handed weapon, or a one-handed weapon in two hands you get double the penalty to attack on damage rolls when using power attack. So a bastard sword wield in two hands as a martial or exotic gets the bonus. |

Like the others have said, the bastard sword is a one-handed weapon. It can be wielded two-handed as a martial weapon, but that doesn't make it ever a two-handed weapon, any more than wielding a longsword two-handed does. The text has a specific term for one-handed weapons used that way. A "one-handed weapon wielded in two hands". See the descriptions of handedness, where it describes that subsection under one-handed weapons, and Power Attack, where both two-handed weapons and one-handed weapons wielded in two hands get the doubled bonus. So yes, you get the double bonus, but not because it's a two-handed weapon. |
